Prince Harry Could Return But With One Catch

Prince Harry might have a route back to royal life, but it would require him to take one significant step: departing without Meghan Markle. This bold assertion comes from royal biographer Tom Bower, who shared with The Royalist Podcast recently that the 41-year-old Duke of Sussex confronts an unthinkable decision between his spouse and his relatives.

Bower, who wrote the forthcoming volume “Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family,” described a grim reality for the Sussexes’ present circumstances. The pair marked their seventh straight Christmas absent from the royal family celebration at Sandringham, cut off from both the British royal household and Meghan’s disconnected family members.

Bower indicated the Duke faces difficulty reconciling with his relatives following all that he documented in his autobiography. “Harry clearly met his father with the hope that he could ingratiate himself back into the family, but it isn’t going to work,” Bower said. The biographer highlighted what he perceives as Harry’s torn allegiances and his failure to completely dedicate himself to mending the bond.

The remarks came after a short, roughly 55-minute gathering between Harry and King Charles at Clarence House in September 2025, their initial in-person interaction in more than 19 months. The meeting generated optimism among royal observers that reconciliation could be achievable, but those possibilities swiftly disappeared when particulars of the confidential meeting were allegedly disclosed. Harry’s team indicated “sources intent on sabotaging” the reunion were responsible.

Bower disclosed that the Duke of Sussex secured a quick meeting with his 77-year-old father “by the skin of his teeth” but received instructions that “not a word must be spoken about it.” The biographer subsequently highlighted what transpired afterward as proof of Harry’s torn allegiances: journeying to Ukraine by train and talking to reporters about having no regrets for anything he said in “Spare.”

Harry’s divisive autobiography, for which he purportedly collected a $20 million advance, remains a persistent obstacle to any possible reconciliation. The revealing publication chronicled private family disagreements and confidential discussions, generating injuries that Bower implies might be permanent.

The circumstances become more challenging when accounting for Meghan’s personal family difficulties. The 44-year-old Duchess of Sussex stays disconnected from her father, Thomas Markle Sr., 81, whose bond with his daughter broke down surrounding her 2018 marriage to Harry. Thomas confessed he had deceived Harry regarding arranging paparazzi pictures mere weeks prior to the wedding.

Meghan allegedly contacted her father through correspondence after discovering his urgent leg removal in the Philippines in December 2025. Medical professionals were forced to remove his left leg beneath the knee following a blood clot that blocked circulation. Thomas stated he was “confused” by claims she had attempted contact, while a hospital source questioned whether the outreach actually happened. From his hospital bed, he conveyed willingness to reconcile and meet his grandchildren, six-year-old Prince Archie and four-year-old Princess Lilibet.

The pair’s seclusion reaches beyond family issues. Bower noted increasing strain on Meghan’s commercial endeavors, especially her lifestyle brand and television pursuits. Her “With Love, Meghan” series has attracted disapproval, with uncertainties circulating about the sustainability of her entertainment projects.

Bower contended the couple encounters substantial obstacles. “This Christmas is make-or-break time for Meghan because there are two main problems—money and profile,” he said, adding that her lifestyle shows have failed to gain traction with audiences.

Harry personally confronts career ambiguity. He stepped down from the Sentebale charity in March 2025 following a contentious disagreement with the organization’s chairwoman—a crushing setback considering he established the HIV/AIDS charity in 2006 to pay tribute to Princess Diana’s legacy. With the upcoming Invictus Games not planned until Birmingham 2027, his schedule seems remarkably empty.

King Charles, who is fighting cancer, encounters his personal challenges. Bower indicated the monarch’s attention resides elsewhere—on his wellbeing, his inheritance, and guaranteeing a seamless succession to Prince William. In this calculation, Bower maintained, Harry merely creates obstacles.

The protection matter introduces another dimension of difficulty. Harry has declared he cannot transport his wife and children back to the UK without sufficient police protection. Bower rejected this as an excuse, maintaining that Harry’s genuine hesitation originates from his incapacity to confront family members after what he wrote in his memoir.

Bower’s forthcoming publication guarantees further disclosures, including claims that Queen Camilla previously told a friend Meghan had “brainwashed” her husband. The Sussexes have resisted forcefully against the biographer. A spokesperson criticized him of promoting “deranged conspiracy and melodrama,” declaring that Bower “has long crossed the line from criticism into fixation.”

For the present, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continue residing in California, trapped between two continents and two families, with no obvious solution ahead.
