Barron Trump, the 20-year-old son of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, has become the focus of controversy after reports revealed his ties to controversial influencer Andrew Tate and individuals in the online “manosphere” scene.
A New York Times investigation reported that the president’s youngest son developed a relationship with Andrew Tate beginning in 2024. Tate, a former kickboxer who bills himself as the “king of toxic masculinity,” faces serious criminal accusations in several countries. Romanian prosecutors have charged him with rape and human trafficking, and British authorities have filed 21 charges against Tate and his brother Tristan, including rape, actual bodily harm, and human trafficking involving multiple women.
The link between Barron Trump and the Tate network emerged through Justin Waller, a Louisiana-born influencer who calls himself the “third [Tate] brother.” Waller has publicly described his friendship with Barron, saying he has visited Mar-a-Lago four or five times and has acted as a mentor to the president’s son.
“I had dinner with Barron at Mar-a-Lago. I met Donald that night,” Waller said in the Netflix documentary “Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere.” The meal occurred in spring 2024 and was hosted by Barron at the Palm Beach resort.
Waller moved from Louisiana to South Florida to build his career and get closer to the Trump family’s social circle. He promotes traditional gender roles and what he calls “one-sided monogamy,” views that align with the broader manosphere’s emphasis on male dominance.
Their connection goes beyond casual acquaintance. According to Waller’s recounting to The New York Times, he and Barron joined a Zoom call with Andrew Tate while Barron was getting a suit fitted by Waller’s tailor. In that conversation they talked about the Romanian criminal case against the Tate brothers. Waller said Barron did not explicitly offer to help with their legal problems, though they discussed how the Tates might use their online platforms to support Trump’s presidential campaign.
Andrew and Tristan Tate ran a webcam pornography enterprise for roughly a decade, boasting about recruiting women to create sexual content for paying viewers while taking much of the revenue. Romanian prosecutors claim they trafficked women using the “loverboy method,” pretending romantic interest to manipulate victims. Andrew Tate also faces allegations of rape and sexual activity with a minor, charges both brothers deny.
Criminal probes into the Tate brothers began in 2022. Romanian courts kept them from leaving the country for years as the investigation progressed. In February 2025, however, the Romanian government abruptly lifted the travel ban, enabling the brothers to board a private jet to Florida.
The timing prompted scrutiny. Investigative reporter Megan Twohey of The New York Times reported that Richard Grenell, a Trump diplomatic envoy, spoke with Romanian officials about the Tates’ case at least twice. Days after the second conversation, Romanian authorities instructed prosecutors to negotiate a settlement with the brothers—something prosecutors reportedly opposed. Romania’s then-prime minister is said to have viewed the move as a way to placate the Trump administration.
The White House reportedly aided the Tate brothers after the 2024 election. According to ProPublica, Paul Ingrassia—a former attorney for the Tate brothers who later became the White House’s DHS liaison—intervened when Customs and Border Protection seized the brothers’ electronic devices upon their Florida arrival. Ingrassia allegedly demanded the devices be returned, asserting the order came from the White House. His attorney has denied these claims. The episode prompted a Senate inquiry into possible interference with a federal investigation.
Andrew Tate has built connections with high-profile American conservatives, including Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, and Donald Trump Jr., who publicly defended the brothers. Tate has claimed to be “very close to the Trump family.”
Barron’s influence is said to extend beyond personal ties. Campaign officials credited him with persuading his father’s 2024 campaign to adopt long-form podcasts and to engage online personalities popular with young men—an approach that became a key part of President Trump’s media strategy.
Waller acknowledged the tactical advantage of his link to the president’s son, telling The New York Times that Barron is “not a bad ally to have—let’s be frank.”
The youngest Trump was seen at Mar-a-Lago on Christmas Day 2025, one of his only public outings since the controversy began. Other manosphere figures have also claimed closeness to the Trump family, such as Nicolas Kenn De Balinthazy, known online as Sneako, who attended the president’s inauguration and has said that “women should not vote.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis publicly stated the Tate brothers were not welcome in his state after their February arrival, and the state attorney general opened a preliminary inquiry. The brothers still face ongoing criminal proceedings in Romania and are expected to be extradited to the United Kingdom after those cases are resolved.
Barron Trump has not publicly addressed his relationships with Waller or the Tate brothers. He has not been accused of any crimes, and there is no public proof that he directly intervened in the Tates’ legal issues. The 20-year-old continues to maintain a largely private life while attending NYU’s Washington campus, though his connections to contentious online figures have put him under increased public scrutiny.
