The celebrated rock band FireHouse mourns the loss of their founding member and vibrant frontman, C.J. (Carl Jeffrey) Snare, who passed away at 64. The band confirmed his death on their official Facebook page on April 5, 2024, referring to Snare as their “brother” and a “rock and roll warrior.”

FireHouse, which emerged during the glam metal era of the late 1980s and early 1990s, quickly became a major player in the music industry. The band was established in the mid-1980s by Snare, drummer Michael Foster, bassist Perry Richardson, and guitarist Bill Leverty. The group’s fame skyrocketed with their self-titled debut album in 1990, which achieved double platinum status in the United States. Their popularity was further cemented by hit singles like “Don’t Treat Me Bad,” “Love of a Lifetime,” and “When I Look Into Your Eyes,” all featuring Snare’s unique vocals.

Despite a shift from glam metal to grunge in the music industry during the 1990s, FireHouse managed to retain a faithful international fan base, particularly in Asia. The band continued to tour and headline hard rock festivals. Their adaptability was displayed in their 2011 album “Full Circle,” which included re-recordings of their classic hits, proving the band’s lasting popularity.

Snare not only served as the band’s vocalist but also played keyboard on seven of FireHouse’s albums, demonstrating his musical flexibility and essential contribution to the band’s unique blend of hard rock and power ballads.

Snare’s health struggles became known in September 2023 when he announced a short break from the band to recover from abdominal surgery. Throughout his recovery, he remained optimistic about returning to the stage and kept fans updated on his progress via social media. In March of this year, he expressed his excitement to start performing again.

However, it later emerged that Snare had been battling Stage IV colon cancer since September 2020, as revealed by his daughter. The severity of his condition led to his death from cardiac arrest. Despite his diagnosis and the difficulties presented by his treatment, Snare showed remarkable persistence and dedication by continuing to perform and engage with fans.

In a touching tribute to their comrade and bandmate, Firehouse extended their condolences to “the Snare family, Katherine Little, friends, and all our cherished fans globally. “Reach for the Sky, CJ! Family, friends, fans, and your fellow band members will eternally miss you. Now, you’re performing with the angels.”

Snare leaves behind three children. His family, the band, and fans worldwide grieve his loss.
