Successful TV/Film Actor Dies at 48

Gauthier’s talent agency, TriStar Appearances/Event Horizon Talent, and his manager released a statement acknowledging his work as a respected Vancouver-based character actor. Chad Colvin, a representative from TriStar Appearances, expressed his shock and grief on social media, noting that the news of Gauthier’s passing had him in tears for hours.

Gauthier’s co-star in “Once Upon a Time,” Colin O’Donoghue, shared his heartfelt sorrow on Instagram, extending his condolences to Gauthier’s wife, Erin, and their two sons, Ben and Sebastian. O’Donoghue lauded Gauthier as more than just a co-worker, but a brother and a “real captain,” highlighting the strong bonds formed during their shared screen time.

Throughout his career, Gauthier proved his versatility with roles in both television and film. His portrayal of Smee in “Once Upon a Time” was particularly noteworthy, along with other roles in series like “Eureka,” “Supernatural,” “Harper’s Island,” “Sanctuary,” and “A Series of Unfortunate Events.” His film credits include “Freddy vs. Jason,” “Agent Cody Banks,” and “40 Days and 40 Nights.”

Adam Horowitz, one of the showrunners of “Once Upon a Time,” paid tribute to Gauthier, describing him as a kind, talented individual. He noted that Gauthier’s passing leaves a void in the entertainment world and among those who knew him.

Gauthier was also recognized for his roles in several Hallmark Christmas movies like “The Christmas Promise,” “Three Wise Men and a Baby,” and the recent “Ms. Christmas Comes to Town,” which aired last October. The Hallmark Channel expressed their condolences via an Instagram post.

Brennan Elliott, who starred with Gauthier in “Ms. Christmas Comes to Town,” expressed his shock on Instagram, referring to the brief but significant time they spent together during the film’s three-week shoot. Elliott lauded Gauthier for his talent and kindness, lamenting the loss of such a “beautiful soul” at only 48 years old.

He acknowledged Gauthier’s substantial contribution to the success of “Ms. Christmas Comes to Town,” expressing his appreciation for Gauthier’s impact and presence.
