A 29-year-old Vermont woman identified as Kayla Wright was reported missing days before her body was tragically discovered in a large container in a remote area of northern Vermont last week.

Following this discovery, authorities arrested three individuals in connection with Wright’s death.

On February 6, in the peaceful town of Troy, Vermont, Wright’s body was found with a gunshot wound to the head. Her body was in a container situated on a sandbar in the Missisquoi River, in the picturesque Big Falls area of Missisquoi State Park, near the southern border of Quebec. The Vermont State Police, who shared this information, also revealed that Wright was last seen on February 2.

Wright’s sudden disappearance was quickly noticed due to her close relationship with her family and her regular contact with them. The Vermont State Police took immediate action, launching an “active and ongoing” investigation that also involved federal law enforcement.

Federal charge documents implicated three individuals in a drug distribution operation that had been under investigation by various law enforcement agencies. A probable cause affidavit established a connection between Wright and at least one of those charged in the drug conspiracy on the day she disappeared. According to the affidavit, “Wright had been associating with individuals at the subject property, had stayed at the subject property at times, and had been involved with narcotics for some time.”

The three individuals were identified as Jakiy Tramaine Corey Keith, Bryanna Rooney, and Thomas Rooney.

Wright’s phone was discovered at the Rooney residence on February 3, following an emergency signal. Keith, also known as “AB” and “Anthony Borrow,” reportedly used Facebook to inform a family member of Wright’s death.

According to the documents, Keith’s account of the events is startling. He alleges that he confronted individuals at the house, armed with guns, demanding to know Wright’s location. He was informed that she was shot three times over a dispute about counterfeit money, and her body was subsequently hidden in a toolbox. The detention memos for the Rooneys and Keith indicate that they may have more information about the case than they have disclosed.

A close friend of Wright’s, Sara Davis from Montana, shared memories of her. Despite the geographical distance, Wright maintained a close relationship with her family, frequently communicating via FaceTime. Davis and Wright became friends in Big Sky, Montana, a location famous for its ski slopes and hiking trails. Despite not being particularly fond of outdoor activities, Wright managed to make numerous friends during her four-year stay in Montana before choosing to return to Vermont.

In the midst of these developments, Sara Davis emphasizes the need to remember her friend for her vibrant personality and the love she received, not just the circumstances of her unfortunate death.
