Collision Between Truck and Amish Buggy Results in Two Fatalities

A pickup truck collided with the back of an Amish buggy, leading to the death of two young children aged one and three on Wednesday, September 20, at about 2:20 pm. The pickup truck operated by Charlene Kring, age 26, hit the Amish buggy from behind on a county route in Alexandria, near the Canadian border, as stated by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Responding officers were met with a grave scene. Inside the buggy were four children and two adults, all in need of medical assistance. Despite efforts, the one-year-old child did not survive. After being moved to a medical facility, the three-year-old also passed away.

Injuries sustained by the other four buggy passengers were treated at local hospitals. The driver, Charlene Kring, remained unscathed. 

While the ages of the deceased were reported, their identities have been withheld by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and no more details regarding the accident have been provided.
