On October 12, Amanda Lynn Webster, an art teacher, aged 44, from Thompson Crossing Elementary School in Indianapolis, was reported missing during her travels in Puerto Rico.

The alarm was raised when she did not exit her rented lodging as scheduled, leaving behind her possessions and a vehicle she had rented for her stay.

In response to her disappearance, on October 13, an “Ashanti Alert” was set in motion by the local law enforcement, aiming to solicit the community’s assistance in their search efforts. Webster was previously seen at a guest facility near El Yunque National Park in the Naguabo area.

On October 15, an unidentifiable body was spotted floating in a river surrounded by rocks in the vicinity of Naguabo. Though there were challenges in determining the body’s identity and no clear indicators of harm were evident, individuals close to the Webster family later verified the body as that of Webster.

Sharon Rickson, who was closely acquainted with the teacher, shared her sentiments on the matter, emphasizing Webster’s significant impact in the realm of education. Rickson mentioned, “Her influence reached many. This loss will undoubtedly resonate with a large number of people.” Besides her role in art education, Webster had a notable involvement with special-education students in Franklin Township schools, enhancing her presence in the educational sphere.

This unsettling incident involving Webster’s sudden disappearance and the subsequent identification of her body has deeply affected those close to her.
