Two customers, a woman and her 16-year-old niece, are suing Taco Bell for an incident at a Dallas Taco Bell franchise in June. They claim they were drenched in boiling water by an employee of the restaurant.

Video evidence supporting the customers’ claims was released by their lawyer this week.  It shows the incident at the Taco Bell in what appears to be someone behind the counter holding a bucket and then dousing the women with water.

The lawsuit was filed July 13 in Dallas County Circuit Court.

Brittany Davis, accompanied by her 16-year-old niece, complained about their food order at the Taco Bell drive-through. After insisting their order be corrected, they were allowed to enter the establishment and were seen talking to employees at the counter, after which they were allegedly doused with boiling water.

The complaint says that the boiling water saturated their clothes and caused severe burns. Both victims were seen at an emergency room and their injuries are documented. Brittany had multiple seizures and had to be sedated and intubated before being airlifted to a ICU burn unit.

According to the lawsuit, Brittany’s injuries include “deep burns on her chest and stomach with significant damage to her brain function due to the seizures causing her to lose some of her memory.”

Her teenage niece suffered “severe burns to her face, chest, legs, arms, and stomach,” according to the complaint.

“Why did these innocent victims have to suffer life-altering burns and psychological trauma over a TACO?!,” attorney Ben Crump tweeted after sharing the video footage. “There’s NO excuse for the actions of the store employees & management. We need a full investigation into this violence & why an employee had a firearm on Taco Bell property!

Attorney Ben Crump is known for representing the family of George Floyd. Crump and attorney Paul Grinke are representing Brittany Davis.

Grinke said, “She didn’t back down, but she didn’t raise her arms, she didn’t try to attack anyone. And at that point they were doused with boiling water.”
