Jeffrey Foskett, celebrated guitarist and long-time collaborator with The Beach Boys, passed away on December 11, 2023, at the age of 67.

His death was due to anaplastic thyroid cancer, a condition he had been battling for years.

Foskett’s tenure with The Beach Boys, spanning over 40 years, significantly impacted the band’s musical journey.

Born in San Jose, California, Foskett’s affinity for The Beach Boys started early, especially after hearing “I Get Around.” A chance meeting with Brian Wilson, the band’s co-founder, in 1976 marked the beginning of his professional association with them.

He initially toured with Mike Love’s Endless Summer Beach Band, eventually taking over from Carl Wilson in The Beach Boys until 1990. He was with Brian Wilson’s solo band from 1998 through 2014, and Love’s Beach Boys from 1981 through 1998, and again from 2015 until his cancer diagnosis in 2019.

Besides guitar, Foskett contributed falsetto vocals to The Beach Boys, participating in their 50th Anniversary Reunion Tour and the 2012 album “That’s Why God Made the Radio.” His solo career also stood out, with albums like “Thru My Window” and “Voices,” the latter featuring covers of classic songs, including those by The Beach Boys.

Despite his success, Foskett remained modest, valuing the approval and friendship of Brian Wilson. Renowned musicians, including Paul McCartney, Jeff Beck, and Roy Orbison, recognized his talent and influence.

Foskett’s cancer battle began with a stage 4 diagnosis in 2019, leading to intensive treatment and participation in a clinical trial. His last social media update in March reflected his positive spirit.

Tributes to Foskett have emphasized his kindness, musical skill, and the happiness he brought through his music. His passing leaves a profound void in the music world, where he was revered not just as a guitarist, but as a friend, mentor, and inspirational figure.
