A tragic event has been reported about a 29-year-old former Thai soldier and Paralympic swimmer who unleashed violence at his own wedding.

Chaturong Suksuk, the groom, turned his wedding into a scene of horror, fatally shooting his bride, her mother, her sister, and a wedding guest in Nakhon Ratchasima province, northeastern Thailand on Saturday, November 25, 2023.

The wedding, held earlier that day, was between Suksuk and Kanchana Pachunthuek, 44. The couple had been cohabiting for three years. Pachunthuek had two children from a previous relationship.

During the wedding, Suksuk displayed unsettling behavior. Increasingly intoxicated, he argued with his bride. In a sudden outburst, he flipped a table, left, and returned with a legally purchased 9mm handgun. Suksuk then fired at the attendees, killing four, including his wife, her 62-year-old mother, and her 38-year-old sister. A 50-year-old guest died later in a hospital, and a 28-year-old was seriously injured. Suksuk concluded the rampage by taking his own life.

Thai authorities found 11 9mm cartridges at the scene and are investigating.

Before the tragedy, Suksuk was known for his achievements in the sports world. He was a former Thai paramilitary ranger who lost one of his legs following a train accident. Despite his disability, he excelled as an athlete, representing Thailand in the 11th ASEAN Para Games in Indonesia in 2022, where he won a silver medal in swimming. He was also on the list of athletes competing in the World Abilitysport Games in Thailand.
