Amber Eggers, who let cameras follow her prison engagement during the 2019 season of the WE TV series “Love After Lockup,” died Thursday, September 3, 2026, at a hospital in Atlanta. The reality television personality was 41, and the cause was acute liver failure.
Her mother, Monica Eggers, confirmed the death and said her daughter had gone back into the hospital days earlier after feeling unwell. “Doctors couldn’t keep Amber’s heart beating any longer, and she ultimately died from acute liver failure,” she told TMZ.
Doctors admitted her to the Atlanta hospital on Tuesday, September 1, and liver failure kept her there two days before she died. Friends posted word of her death on social media as well.
A Year of Health Battles
Serious illness had dogged Eggers for more than a year. Her health started to fail in 2025, and a severe case of pneumonia and bacteria in her bloodstream put Amber in the hospital that May; her sister, Erin Eggers, responded by opening a GoFundMe page to help the family cover mounting medical bills. Her sister wrote at the time that her condition had turned critical; doctors put her on a ventilator, and she was “eventually placed on an ECMO machine.”
“Many of you know Amber is one of the kindest and most big-hearted people you could ever meet,” her sister wrote in the appeal. The fight ahead, she added, would demand every bit of that strength from Amber. The family, Erin Eggers said, was straining under the cost of her sister’s care.
Better news followed in an update posted later that month. Doctors had moved Amber out of intensive care and put her on oxygen, her lungs still sick but improving day by day, her sister wrote; physical therapy had also begun, aimed at rebuilding the strength in her legs so she could walk again.
The initial pneumonia diagnosis understated how deep that 2025 crisis ran. Sepsis and multiple-organ failure reportedly followed from the infection, putting Eggers on life support. She pulled through and returned home, picking her life back up in Georgia as the manager of Sidelines Grille in the city of Canton.
The setbacks kept coming. Eggers announced the next one herself in a Facebook post dated August 5, 2026, writing: “I just had that mini stroke and my bday. What better time th[an] the present.” She was recovering from the mini-stroke at home before the liver failure sent her back to the hospital.
Her Path to Reality TV
“Love After Lockup” picks up its couples at the first face-to-face meeting, one that arrives only after years of letters, phone calls and visiting-room dates with a partner behind bars. The cameras then follow the pair to test whether the relationship survives once both people are on the outside.
A four-year sentence for drug trafficking was underway when Eggers joined the franchise for Season 2, which aired in 2019. Her partner, Vincent Gonzalez, proposed to her on camera during the season. The engagement did not survive her release from prison, and the couple split.
Viewers kept seeing her anyway. Starting around 2021, Eggers and her former cellmate, Michelle “Puppy” Deaton, both turned up in cameo appearances across later seasons of the show and on the spinoff “Life After Lockup.” The story shifted to put their bond at its center, and Deaton told the series that Eggers had loved her during a stretch when she could not love herself, and that getting through her incarceration without Eggers was something she did not think she would have managed.

WE TV and “Love After Lockup” issued an official statement on her death, shared on Instagram on September 4: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Amber Eggers, an original and unforgettable member of the Love After Lockup family. She was a bright light, who shared her life story with courage and authenticity, and we are honored to have been a part of her journey over several years. Our hearts are with her family and friends who held her close.”
No good way exists to deliver news like it, said the Instagram tribute that announced the death, which added that Eggers’ medical team had done everything it could before her body gave out. It described her as a fighter who had already survived so much, and thanked her for being herself. Fans had laughed with her, worried about her and cheered her on through every trial she faced, the tribute said, and her absence would be felt.
