Hilaria Baldwin isn’t afraid to acknowledge that her relationship with Alec Baldwin might raise a few eyebrows — and she’s willing to laugh about it. In a candid interview published May 31, 2026, the wellness entrepreneur, 42, addressed the 26-year age gap that separates her from her Oscar-nominated husband, 68, saying the whole setup sounds like something out of a comedy sketch.
“Take a 27-year-old yoga instructor married to a rich and famous older man — it sounds ridiculous. It sounds like a bad SNL sketch,” she told the Daily Mail.
Despite the unconventional optics, the couple has built a life that includes nearly 14 years of marriage, seven children, and eight pets split between a Greenwich Village apartment and a Hamptons home.
An Age Gap That Requires Work
While Hilaria can laugh at the surface-level assumptions, she’s been candid that the age difference requires genuine effort to navigate. On the “Uncut & Uncensored” podcast with host Caroline Stanbury, released November 12, 2025, she opened up about the work involved in making their relationship function.
“I don’t believe that age is just a number, at least in our situation,” she said at the time. “There are certain things where I have to look at him and say, ‘He has 26 more years of experience,’ and sometimes that’s a flex, and sometimes that means that we need to do a little therapy.”
She also recognized the personal sacrifices that came with marrying into Hollywood royalty, noting that the marriage led to a loss of part of her identity and marked her first experience of being discussed on such a widespread public scale.
From a Manhattan Restaurant to Marriage
The couple’s romance began in February 2011 at Pure Food & Wine, an organic restaurant tucked into New York City’s Irving Place. Hilaria — born Hillary Hayward-Thomas — was working as an instructor at Yoga Vida when Alec Baldwin, already a household name from “30 Rock,” made his move.
Hilaria recalled that she was standing by the door with friends when he approached, took her hand, and told her he had to get to know her.
By April 2012, the couple announced their engagement. They were exchanging vows at the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in New York by July 2012. Hilaria was 28 at the time; Alec was 54.
A Household of Seven Children
Just five months after their wedding, Hilaria became pregnant with the couple’s eldest, Carmen Gabriela, now 12, who was born August 23, 2013. She was followed by Rafael Thomas, 10, born June 17, 2015; Leonardo Ángel, nine, born September 12, 2016; and Romeo Alejandro, eight, born May 17, 2018. The household later expanded to include Eduardo “Edu” Pao and María Lucía, both five, and the couple’s youngest, Ilaria Catalina, two.
The couple renewed their vows on June 30, 2017, at the Wölffer Estate Vineyard, with Alec’s daughter Ireland Baldwin — whom he shares with ex-wife Kim Basinger — joining her half-siblings to witness the ceremony.
Hilaria insists the reality of their dynamic is far more egalitarian than outsiders might guess.
“I think people expect that Alec wanted somebody he could boss around, and we’re on the same level together,” she said. The “Dancing with the Stars” alum added that the couple “poke fun at each other in our family all the time.”
Keeping the Connection Alive
With seven children in the mix, Hilaria said she and Alec prioritize date nights, even amid heavy travel schedules. Dinner is usually the centerpiece — sometimes out, sometimes home-cooked — followed by long conversations about the kids and their respective projects.
She explained that they allowed each other to be themselves, and she believed this mutual freedom was one of the reasons their relationship had lasted so long, despite being polar opposites and very different from one another.
The Baldwins have certainly had their share of turbulence. Hilaria faced a public reckoning over her characterization of her connection to Spain, and Alec endured a trial following the fatal shooting on the set of the film Rust. The couple has chronicled much of their family life in their reality series “The Baldwins.”
“There’s been so much chaos in our lives, so much of it wonderful, some horrible things but we’ve managed to figure it out,” Hilaria reflected.
Alec Baldwin, who attended an event celebrating Hilaria’s Spotlight magazine cover alongside his wife, made it clear his admiration hasn’t dimmed. “When I met her, she was unknown; she wasn’t a famous person. She was a hard worker and I really admired that. She’s beautiful beyond measure, inside and out,” he said.
Ridiculous-sounding origin story or not, Hilaria summed it up best: it has “worked out, luckily.” And after 14 years, seven kids and a whole lot of headlines, that may be what matters most.
