Linda Stevenson, the 64-year-old wife of Jill Biden’s ex-husband Bill Stevenson, was found dead in her Wilmington, Delaware home after police responded to a domestic dispute call late Sunday evening.

Officers with the New Castle County Division of Police arrived at the residence in the Oak Hill neighborhood around 11:16 p.m. on December 28, 2025. Upon entering the home on the 1300 block of Idlewood Road, officers discovered Linda Stevenson unresponsive in the living room.

Police immediately administered life-saving measures, but Linda Stevenson was pronounced dead at the scene. The Delaware Division of Forensic Science has scheduled an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. No charges have been filed at this time.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit have taken over the case. Bill Stevenson reportedly called authorities and is cooperating with investigators. Dispatch audio referenced cardiac arrest, according to media reports.

State forensic investigators were observed at the home following the incident. Detectives were also attempting to speak with neighbors in the area as part of their ongoing investigation.

The case has drawn national attention due to Bill Stevenson’s past marriage to current First Lady Jill Biden. Jill Biden married Bill Stevenson in 1970 while she was in college. The marriage lasted five years before the couple divorced in 1975.

Two years after her divorce, in 1977, Jill Biden married Joe Biden, who was then serving as a U.S. senator from Delaware.

During their marriage, Bill Stevenson owned The Stone Balloon, a popular bar near the University of Delaware. The venue became well-known in the region as a gathering place for college students and music enthusiasts.

Bill and Linda Stevenson had been married for nearly 40 years at the time of her death. While Bill Stevenson’s first marriage to Jill Biden ended decades ago, his connection to the Biden family has periodically brought him back into public attention over the years.

“Police say they responded to a domestic dispute on the 1300 block of Idlewood Road around 11:16 p.m. Sunday,” according to local reports. “When officers entered the home they found a 64-year-old woman, later identified as Linda Stevenson, unresponsive in the living room.”

The incident unfolded in Wilmington, an established residential area in Delaware’s largest city. Wilmington has been closely associated with the Biden family for decades.

The investigation by the Criminal Investigations Unit involves collecting physical evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reconstructing the timeline of events that led to the emergency call.

The Delaware Division of Forensic Science will conduct a thorough examination to establish the medical cause of Linda Stevenson’s death. The forensic examination will provide crucial information to investigators about what occurred in the moments before her death.

The New Castle County Division of Police has asked anyone with information about the incident to contact detectives. Witness accounts from neighbors or others who may have relevant information can prove valuable in understanding the full context of what transpired that evening.

The investigation remains active as detectives continue gathering information. The New Castle County police emphasized that the case requires thorough examination before any conclusions can be drawn about the circumstances surrounding Linda Stevenson’s death.

While the connection to the Biden family has generated media interest, investigators are focused on determining the facts of what occurred at the Wilmington residence. The Criminal Investigations Unit will continue working with forensic experts to establish a complete understanding of the events that led to the emergency call and subsequent discovery.

Delaware authorities continue to process evidence and conduct interviews as they work to establish what transpired during the late evening hours of December 28, 2025. The investigation’s outcome will depend on the comprehensive analysis of all available evidence, including forensic findings, witness statements, and physical evidence from the scene.
