Trump’s MSNBC Outburst Shocks Viewers

President Donald Trump unleashed a series of sharp retorts on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, after MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” hosts and a guest mocked him on air, reigniting a long-standing feud with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski despite their previous attempts to mend relations at Mar-a-Lago.

The 79-year-old president spent part of his Tuesday morning fixated on the cable news program, which featured New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani ahead of Tuesday’s elections. Scarborough introduced the guest by quipping that “the communist joins us now,” echoing Trump’s frequent social media attacks on the 34-year-old democratic socialist.

Mamdani swiftly corrected the characterization, stating there are reasons voters might not support him but urged honesty about his actual political stance. He emphasized he identifies as a democratic socialist, regardless of how many times the president labels him otherwise.

The Morning Joe panel also discussed the recent death of former Vice President Dick Cheney, describing him as a Republican who maintained his principles during Trump’s political rise. Scarborough praised Cheney for living his life in “three acts,” with the final act devoted to opposing Trump.

Scarborough noted that Cheney was seen as a defender of democracy when many others in the Republican Party lost their way, particularly after January 6. He suggested that Republicans from his era would view Cheney as being on the right side of history and that the nation should be grateful for his stance.

Co-host Willie Geist highlighted one of Cheney’s last public acts, when he announced his intention to vote for Kamala Harris in the presidential election. Geist noted the irony that Cheney, once nicknamed “Darth Vader” and the face of the Republican Party during the Bush years, declared Trump could never be trusted with power again.

Trump responded hours later with a Truth Social post targeting the show’s ratings, claiming Scarborough’s television numbers have gone “down the tubes,” along with the rest of MSNBC. He declared it “a beautiful thing to watch” and signed the post “President DJT.”

The outburst revealed how deeply the morning show continues to irritate the president, fitting neatly into his established pattern of mocking ratings and declaring victory while demonstrating his close attention to cable news coverage.

Trump’s fixation extended beyond the television hosts to Mamdani himself, whom the president has relentlessly attacked since the mayoral candidate announced his campaign. At a White House dinner with tech CEOs in September, Trump told reporters he opposed seeing a communist become mayor, a refrain he has repeated numerous times.

On Tuesday, Trump escalated his attacks by accusing Mamdani of being a “Jew hater” and declaring that any Jewish person who votes for him is stupid. In a Truth Social rant, he wrote: “Any Jewish person that votes for Zohran Mamdani, a proven and self professed JEW HATER, is a stupid person!!!”

The president’s Tuesday activities also included demanding that Senate Republicans terminate the filibuster for the fourth time in five days. Trump’s increasingly desperate calls came as congressional leaders remained steadfast in their support of the procedural rule, which has existed in various forms since the 1780s.

In a caps-heavy Truth Social message, Trump warned that the midterms will be “rightfully brutal” for Republicans if they fail to eliminate the filibuster and pass a spending bill to reopen the government. He argued that Democrats are more likely to win future elections if Republicans cannot pass their agenda due to Democratic opposition.

Trump insisted that terminating the filibuster would allow Republicans to pass every policy they have dreamed of for years but never achieved. He claimed they would secure fair elections, ban men from women’s sports, strengthen borders, cut taxes and energy costs, and protect the Second Amendment.

The government has been shut down since September 30 as Congress failed to pass a budget bill. Democrats are demanding that any spending plan roll back Republican cuts to Medicaid and extend tax credits to prevent health insurance premiums from skyrocketing.

Recent polls show a majority of voters blaming Republicans for the shutdown, with Trump suffering his highest-ever disapproval ratings as voters express dissatisfaction with his economic policies and handling of inflation.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has resisted the president’s demands to end the filibuster. Last week, a spokesperson told CBS News that the South Dakota Republican, who previously rejected calls to change the rule, still opposed the move.

Trump acknowledged his disagreement with Thune during a 60 Minutes interview that aired Sunday, telling Norah O’Donnell he likes the senator and thinks he’s terrific but disagrees on this point.

House Speaker Mike Johnson has also cautioned against eliminating the rule, telling reporters that while it’s possible, many would argue it’s not wise. He expressed deep concern about what could happen if Democrats had a bare majority in the Senate without the filibuster in place.
