Mass Shooting in Sports Bar: 2 Dead, 4 Injured

A deadly shooting at Alas Locas sports bar in Cleveland, Texas, has left two people dead and four others injured, with authorities launching a manhunt for the suspected gunman who remains at large.

The shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. on September 7, 2025, at the sports bar located on County Road 5018 in Liberty County, approximately 45 miles northeast of Houston. The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office has identified the suspect as 32-year-old Jose Osman Aguilar Cantillano.

According to investigators, Cantillano arrived at the bar around midnight and ordered a beer, staying quietly by himself for approximately an hour and a half. Witnesses told investigators that prior to the shooting, he was not conversing with anyone and paid for his drinks in cash. Captain David Myers of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office indicated that the suspect spoke with one person at the bar about an incident that occurred several months ago, though it did not involve that individual.

After leaving the establishment, Cantillano returned around 2:30 a.m. and began shooting at patrons on the outdoor patio using a .40 or .45-caliber handgun. Authorities determined that at least 20 shots were fired based on shell casings recovered at the scene. The gunman then walked to the front of the bar and fired additional shots through the glass doors before fleeing in a white construction-style van with no side windows.

Alexis Jasso, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, Francisco Navarrete, 43, died Monday from his injuries after being transported to a hospital by helicopter. Four other victims sustained injuries but have since been released from hospitals. The injured include Sandra Patricia Valiz Adrian, 42, who was shot in her right hand; Aldegundo Alvarez Trujillo, 40, shot in his left hand; Jose Rafael Sanchez, 34, shot in his shoulder; and a 35-year-old identified only as Gonzalez, who was shot in his leg.

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Cantillano’s home on Monday, but he was not found. During a second search of the residence, authorities discovered several people including Cantillano’s wife, 23-year-old Alejandra Marie Valdez Montoya, who was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence.

Surveillance footage from the bar captured the entire incident, and investigators have released images showing the suspect. The footage shows a Hispanic male in a blue t-shirt near the white van used in his escape. Myers noted that “may be traveling toward the New Orleans, Louisiana area or the Atlanta, Georgia area.”

The white van, described as full-size with a construction-style appearance, reportedly struck a maroon-colored vehicle as Cantillano fled the scene. The vehicle has a long scratch along its side and lacks side windows, making it potentially identifiable to witnesses.

Cantillano lives near the sports bar and is familiar with the area. Authorities believe he acted alone and have not yet determined a clear motive for the attack. The Texas Rangers and the Liberty County District Attorney’s Office are assisting with the ongoing investigation.

The incident represents the second mass shooting at a bar in the Houston metropolitan area this year. On March 23, six people were shot at the Latinas Sports Bar in southwest Houston. In that case, authorities arrested 25-year-old Venezuelan national Jose Miguel Briceno, who was charged with aggravated assault mass shooting. A second suspect in that shooting remains at large and is believed to have fled to Mexico.

Federal prosecutors later indicted Briceno along with 15 other foreign nationals on drug trafficking and weapons charges as part of an operation targeting Venezuelan nationals and alleged members of the Anti-Tren transnational criminal organization. The March shooting was characterized as part of a turf war between Anti-Tren and TdA gangs.

Local residents expressed shock at the violence in their typically quiet community. The Colony Ridge area, where the bar is located, is described by neighbors as family-friendly, making the shooting particularly unsettling for those living nearby.

Anyone with information about Cantillano’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at 936-336-4500 or their local law enforcement agency. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 800-392-7867. Authorities consider the suspect armed and extremely dangerous.
