Barron Trump Leaves NYC for White House Life

President Donald Trump’s youngest son Barron has moved into the White House as he begins his sophomore year at New York University’s Washington, D.C. campus, according to multiple reports. The 19-year-old was noticeably absent from NYU’s main Manhattan campus when fall semester classes resumed on September 2.

Campus security officers confirmed to reporters that Barron did not return to the Stern School of Business in Greenwich Village, where he spent his freshman year. Instead, he has transferred to NYU’s satellite campus in the nation’s capital, allowing him to live with his parents at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue while continuing his business studies.

The New York Post first reported the move on September 9, citing sources familiar with the arrangement. NYU’s D.C. Academic Center accepts up to 120 students each semester, offering courses in politics, public policy, history, economics and journalism that align with students pursuing careers in government and related fields.

During his freshman year, Barron commuted from Trump Tower in Manhattan to the Washington Square campus, traveling in a motorcade of black SUVs for the 20-minute journey. The arrangement required significant security measures, with Secret Service agents accompanying him to classes and maintaining a protective detail throughout his daily activities.

His presence on the New York campus was described as limited by fellow students, who noted his interactions were constrained by security requirements. Former NYU College Republicans president Kaya Walker previously told Vanity Fair that Barron appeared isolated, noting that “he goes to class, he goes home.” Walker later resigned from her position after facing backlash for her public comments about the first son.

The D.C. campus offers Barron access to internship opportunities with government agencies, nonprofits and corporations based in Washington. The facility markets itself as providing enhanced access to the capital’s intellectual, political and cultural resources, with courses taught by visiting NYU faculty and professors from other universities and cultural institutions.

Barron’s move coincides with increased involvement by First Lady Melania Trump in the second Trump administration. She has spearheaded anti-revenge porn legislation and played a role in diplomatic efforts regarding the conflict in Ukraine. The first lady also leads a school artificial intelligence initiative encouraging students to submit ideas for harnessing the technology.

Sources indicate Barron spent his summer months focusing on business development rather than social activities. According to People magazine, he has been actively working on financial interests and meeting with business partners to develop technology projects. One source indicated that romantic relationships are not currently a priority, as he concentrates on his studies and launching his own career ventures.

The 6-foot-7 teenager last appeared publicly during his father’s inauguration ceremony on January 20, where he was sworn in for his second presidential term. Since then, Barron has maintained a low profile, avoiding public events and maintaining no social media presence.

His college choice represents a departure from Trump family tradition. His older siblings Donald Jr., Eric, Ivanka and Tiffany all attended the University of Pennsylvania or Georgetown University. However, Barron’s brother-in-law Jared Kushner is an NYU Stern graduate, providing some family connection to the institution.

President Trump previously praised his son’s academic performance and political interest during a Philadelphia radio interview in August 2024. He described Barron as an excellent student with a growing interest in politics, calling the development “sort of funny.”

The move allows the Trump family to live together full-time for the first time since Barron was 13 years old. He resided in the White House during his father’s first term from 2017 to 2019, when the family relocated permanently to Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.

Neither the White House nor NYU officials provided official comment on the arrangement when contacted by reporters. The move effectively eliminates housing costs that would typically run between $7,317 and $9,513 per semester for NYU students, while the D.C. campus program itself costs approximately $32,811 in undergraduate tuition.
