Popular Actor Hurt in Brutal Car Wreck

Dylan Walsh, the actor best known for starring in “Nip/Tuck,” and four family members were involved in a serious single-vehicle crash in Rumson, New Jersey on Sunday, August 17 around 5 p.m., according to multiple reports.

The 61-year-old actor was driving a 2022 Ford Explorer northbound on East River Road when the vehicle suddenly veered into the southbound lane, Rumson Police Department officials confirmed. The SUV broke through one utility pole before continuing northbound and colliding with a second utility pole.

Two of the five passengers in the vehicle complained of pain following the crash and were transported to Riverview Medical Center for treatment. Photos of the accident scene showed significant damage to the front of the vehicle, with both front airbags deployed and a major dent in the trunk area.

Walsh was subsequently issued several motor vehicle summonses following the accident, though police have not disclosed the specific infractions. The crash caused eight residents in the area to lose power temporarily, but Jersey Central Power & Light later restored electricity and replaced both damaged utility poles. The intersection remained closed until Tuesday morning while repairs were completed.

A representative for Walsh confirmed the accident and provided an update on the family’s condition. Walsh’s rep stated that “thankfully, everyone is safe and has since returned home.” The family expressed deep gratitude for the swift response from the Rumson Police, Fire Department, and EMS, as well as the medical staff at Riverview Medical Center.

The representative also extended special thanks to the management and staff of The River Point Inn for their support immediately after the accident. Local reports indicated that inn staff quickly responded to assist the family at the scene, providing comfort and aid while emergency responders arrived.

Walsh’s wife, Leslie Bourque-Walsh, addressed the incident in Facebook posts that have since been deleted. She revealed the family was traveling to a breakfast when the accident occurred and emphasized the importance of wearing seatbelts and having functional airbags in vehicles. Bourque-Walsh noted the family was bruised from their seatbelts but expressed gratitude that the safety equipment saved their lives.

In a subsequent social media post, Bourque-Walsh shared an emotional goodbye to their Ford Explorer, which she called their “Timberline.” She mentioned the vehicle had carried the family on memorable road trips, including one from Vancouver, British Columbia to Rumson, New Jersey. Despite the sentimental value, she acknowledged it was ultimately just a car, though one with many attached memories.

Walsh and Bourque-Walsh, who married in 2022, share two children: 13-year-old daughter Amelie Belle and 12-year-old son Hudson Scott. The actor also has three adult children from previous marriages – son Thomas and daughter Joanna with ex-wife Melora Walters, and daughter Stella with ex-wife Joanna Going. It remains unclear which family members were passengers in the vehicle during the accident.

The crash investigation remains ongoing, according to local authorities. Walsh, whose real name is Charles D. Walsh, has not publicly commented on the specific circumstances that led to the vehicle leaving its lane and striking the utility poles.

Walsh gained widespread recognition playing Dr. Sean McNamara on Ryan Murphy’s medical drama “Nip/Tuck,” which aired on FX from 2003 to 2010 for six seasons. He starred alongside Julian McMahon, who portrayed Dr. Christian Troy in the series about a plastic surgery practice. McMahon died in July 2025 following a private battle with cancer at age 56.

Following McMahon’s death, Walsh paid tribute to his former co-star, expressing their close friendship and shared memories from their time working together on the popular drama series. The actor has continued working in television, appearing in recent years on shows including “Superman & Lois” as General Sam Lane and “Blue Bloods” as Mayor Pete Chase.

Walsh has also appeared in various films throughout his career, including “The Stepfather” in 2009 and “The Lake House” in 2006 alongside Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. His television work has spanned multiple genres, from medical dramas to police procedurals and superhero series.

The accident occurred just over a month after Walsh mourned the loss of his “Nip/Tuck” co-star McMahon, adding another difficult chapter to what has been a challenging period for the actor and his family.
