Mass Shooting at Party in Warehouse: 2 Dead

Two people were killed and six others wounded in a mass shooting at a warehouse party in downtown Los Angeles early Monday morning, August 4, 2025, according to police officials.

The shooting occurred around 1 a.m. in the 1100 block of 14th Place, near the intersection of 14th Place and Paloma Street, in an industrial area just north of Interstate 10. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and found eight people struck by bullets.

A man in his late twenties was pronounced dead at the scene, while a woman in her early fifties died later at a hospital. Among the six injured victims, ranging in age from 26 to 62, at least one remained in critical condition. Some victims were transported by ambulance while others self-transported to area hospitals.

Police had initially responded to the same location around 11 p.m. Sunday night after officers observed someone carrying a gun into what appeared to be a large party with 50 to 60 attendees. One person was arrested for firearm possession, and the gathering was shut down. However, partygoers returned approximately two hours later, setting the stage for the deadly shooting.

A law enforcement source confirmed to the Los Angeles Times that the event was part of a local gang’s “hood day” celebration. Police recovered at least half a dozen guns at the scene and made at least one additional arrest involving a woman found in possession of a firearm.

One of the deceased victims was identified as 29-year-old Gregory Derisso. His father, Judner Derisso, learned of his son’s death after arriving at the scene following a call from a friend’s mother. The elder Derisso described his son as a father of three children who was supposed to have dinner with him but never arrived.

A partygoer who witnessed the shooting described hearing what sounded like 100 shots being fired outside the warehouse, causing people to stampede out of the building and scatter into the street. Another witness, Tyrone Laney, who lives in a temporary housing encampment nearby, reported hearing thumping music followed by gunfire that sounded like an automatic weapon.

Initial reports suggested the warehouse party was connected to an unofficial after-party for Hard Summer, a house and techno music festival that took place over the weekend at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, near SoFi Stadium. However, Hard Summer representatives confirmed they had zero affiliation with the warehouse event.

The shooting location was also separate from a legitimate unofficial Hard Summer after-party organized by Framed, which occurred nearby the same night. The Framed organizers clarified that their event remained secure and that early news reports had inaccurately linked their party to the shooting incident.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass responded to the violence in a statement, declaring that “this senseless violence and loss of life is devastating and those who are responsible must be held accountable.” She emphasized that there would be no tolerance for violence in the city and extended thoughts to the victims and their families.

The shooting highlights ongoing concerns about unsanctioned warehouse parties in downtown Los Angeles’ industrial areas. Anthony Rodriguez, president and CEO of the Fashion District business improvement district, reported that 11 unauthorized parties took place on Saturday in the Fashion District alone. Rodriguez noted that nothing positive comes from these unpermitted gatherings, which lack safety protocols and often involve alcohol consumption, illegal drugs, underage drinking, and prostitution.

Estela Lopez, executive director for the LA Downtown Industrial District business improvement district, explained that the area’s vacant warehouses provide attractive venues for underground parties and illegal operations. The industrial zones typically empty by mid-afternoon when businesses close, creating dark, desolate areas with limited police patrols.

The investigation remains active, with authorities working to determine the motive behind the shooting. No arrests have been made in connection with the gunfire, and police have not released information about potential suspects. Officers remained at the scene for hours collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.

This incident adds to growing concerns about violence at unauthorized events in Los Angeles’ warehouse districts. In May, hundreds attended an illegal rooftop concert spanning two downtown parking lots, with some participants later vandalizing an A Line train and causing disturbances in the surrounding neighborhood.

LAPD commanding officer Letisia Ruiz confirmed that all eight gunshot victims were adults. The department continues investigating whether the earlier incident involving the armed individual is connected to the subsequent shooting that left two dead and six wounded.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Los Angeles Police Department as the investigation continues.
