Trump’s Meltdown: Fires Back at Claims

President Donald Trump launched an attack on Democratic Senator Chris Coons of Delaware on Monday, denying reports that his administration is pursuing negotiations with Iran similar to the Obama-era nuclear deal he previously abandoned.

The confrontation began after Coons appeared on Fox News Sunday, where he referenced CNN reports suggesting the Trump administration had discussed providing Iran access to as much as $30 billion for civilian nuclear energy programs, along with sanctions relief and unfreezing restricted Iranian funds. Coons noted that Trump appeared to be moving toward offering Iran a deal resembling the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action that President Barack Obama negotiated.

Trump responded with a Truth Social post just before 3 a.m. Monday, calling Coons a “phony Democrat Senator” and flatly denying any negotiations with Iran. The President stated he was not offering Iran anything, unlike Obama who provided billions under what Trump characterized as the nuclear weapon pathway of the JCPOA, which would now be expired.

Trump insisted his administration had “totally OBLITERATED their Nuclear Facilities” and was not engaging in talks with Iranian officials. The President’s denial came after he had previously dismissed the CNN reports as a hoax propagated by what he termed the fake news media.

The current tension stems from Trump’s decision to withdraw from Obama’s nuclear agreement in 2018, which prompted Iran to accelerate its nuclear program according to reporting. This escalation ultimately led Trump to authorize bombing Iranian nuclear facilities on June 21, followed by his consideration of a renewed diplomatic approach that experts described as a lesser version of the original JCPOA.

However, early intelligence assessments suggest the U.S. strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities over a weekend in June may have only set back Iran’s nuclear program by months rather than destroying it completely, contradicting Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claims of total obliteration. The strikes occurred after Israel initially bombed Iran on June 13, citing efforts to prevent nuclear weapons development.

The conflict escalated when Iran retaliated by launching attacks against Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, which houses thousands of U.S. troops. Qatar successfully intercepted the missiles, reporting no casualties while condemning the sovereignty violation.

Trump subsequently announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, though both nations later accused each other of violations before recommitting to the truce. During this period, Trump expressed frustration with both countries, indicating he was particularly unhappy with Israel’s actions and suggesting neither side understood the situation properly.

In a separate development, Trump revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin had contacted him to offer assistance with the Iran situation. Trump also indicated he did not seek regime change in Iran, stating he preferred to avoid creating chaos in the region.

The Iranian government maintained that its strike on the U.S. base constituted legitimate self-defense, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasizing that any return to negotiations would require a halt to what Iran considers ongoing aggression. Iranian officials also claimed to have arrested more than 700 individuals they described as Israeli operatives over a 12-day period following the initial strikes.

Meanwhile, the International Atomic Energy Agency proposed renewed cooperation with Iran to resolve questions about the country’s nuclear activities. IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi emphasized that nuclear facilities should never be attacked due to radiological accident risks and indicated inspectors were ready to begin verification work immediately.

The agency had verified more than 400 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent shortly before the Israeli attacks, highlighting the advanced state of Iran’s nuclear capabilities despite the recent military strikes.

Trump’s confrontation with Coons reflects broader tensions over his administration’s Middle East policy approach, particularly regarding Iran’s nuclear program and regional stability. The President’s early morning social media activity has become a regular feature of his communication strategy, often targeting both Democratic opponents and international developments.
