Popular Actor Dead at 56

Australian-American actor Julian McMahon died on July 2, 2025, in Clearwater, Florida, following a private cancer battle. He was 56.

His wife, Kelly McMahon, confirmed his passing through a statement to media outlets, noting his love for life, family, friends, work, and fans. She expressed, “Julian McMahon died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer.”

McMahon was renowned for his roles in television and film, notably as Dr. Christian Troy on “Nip/Tuck,” which aired from 2003 to 2010 and earned him a Golden Globe nomination. He also played Cole Turner on “Charmed” from 2000 to 2005.

In film, McMahon portrayed Dr. Victor Von Doom in the “Fantastic Four” series, appearing in the 2005 and 2007 films. Recently, he starred as Jess LaCroix in “FBI: Most Wanted” on CBS until March 2022.

Born on July 27, 1968, in Sydney, Australia, McMahon was the son of Sir William McMahon, former Prime Minister of Australia, and Sonia Hopkins, a socialite. Despite his family’s political ties, he pursued a career in entertainment.

McMahon began his career as a model, transitioning to acting with roles in Australian TV shows like “The Power, the Passion” and “Home and Away.” He moved to Hollywood, working on “Another World” and later the crime drama “Profiler.”

McMahon’s illness impacted his work commitments, including a break from “FBI: Most Wanted.” He completed work on the Netflix thriller “The Surfer” in 2025, one of his last projects.

Following his death, industry tributes poured in. Alyssa Milano, his co-star on “Charmed,” described McMahon as magical, more than a TV husband, and a dear friend. Dylan Walsh from “Nip/Tuck” expressed shock and cherished their friendship.

Dick Wolf, producer of the FBI franchise, extended condolences on behalf of Wolf Entertainment. Nicolas Cage, who worked with McMahon on “The Surfer,” praised his talent and intelligence.

Holly Marie Combs, another “Charmed” co-star, recalled McMahon’s humor and zest for life. Rose McGowan and Ioan Gruffudd also shared their memories of him as a talented and joyful colleague.

In his final role, McMahon played an Australian Prime Minister in the Netflix series “The Residence.” He is survived by his wife Kelly, and daughter Madison, from a previous marriage. McMahon had three marriages, including to Dannii Minogue in the 1990s.

Warner Bros. Television expressed sorrow over McMahon’s death, offering condolences to his family and fans. The entertainment industry remembers him for his professional achievements and personal connections.
