Angy Morad, the Syrian actress and former titleholder of Miss Asia World, has passed away at the relatively young age of 33. This follows complications arising from a viral infection she contracted during her second pregnancy.
She was moved to intensive care in the later part of January after her health deteriorated, with reports indicating that she had been struggling with pneumonia prior to her hospital admission. Unfortunately, after several weeks of treatment, Morad succumbed to her illness on February 9.
Just days before her death, Morad posted a troubling message to her Facebook followers, stating: “I am dying, forgive me.”
Her husband Samer kept fans updated on her critical condition via social media, writing: “Angy is in a difficult situation between life and death. Please pray for her.”
After her death, Morad’s mother confirmed the tragic news on social media, posting: “May God have mercy on you, my daughter.”
Reports indicate that Morad’s health issues began with body inflammation. She was advised to undergo medical tests in Lebanon. Initial reports found no virus, but a minor infection developed into a severe one, which Morad reportedly neglected. Her condition drastically deteriorated during her pregnancy, resulting in significant lung complications.
Born in 1992 in Damascus, Syria, Morad graduated from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts and started her acting career in 2007. Her roles in Syrian drama series such as “Baqaa Daw 13” and “Al-Gharib” gained her popularity.
She achieved international recognition in 2017 when she won the Miss Asia World title. After taking a short break from acting in 2020, she had recently returned to the industry in the series “Souq Al Haramia,” which started airing in January 2025.
There are conflicting reports on whether Morad died during pregnancy or after childbirth. Some say she died while still pregnant, while others report that both she and her newborn passed away during delivery.
“She was experiencing inflammation in her body and was advised to take some medicines, but she was afraid to do so,” Morad’s mother Annie Orfalla is reported to have said. This hesitation led to a severe infection that rapidly worsened her health.
Before falling ill, Morad had made a name for herself as a popular TV personality in the Middle East. Her 15-year career saw her appearing in numerous Syrian TV shows, gaining a considerable following.
Her Facebook post, in which she expressed her dying state, caused alarm among her fans and went viral after her death, indicating she was aware of her deteriorating health condition in the days leading up to her hospital admission.
Morad leaves behind her husband Samer Hakky and their four-year-old daughter. Hakky expressed his grief on social media following her death.
The entertainment industry in Syria mourns the loss of this young star, with colleagues and fans paying tribute to her talent and career achievements. Her death represents a significant loss for Syrian television, where she was a well-known figure through her various dramatic roles.
News of Morad’s death comes amidst reports of other influencers and content creators who have recently died due to health complications. Laleska Alexandre, a Brazilian influencer, reportedly died after suffering complications from an ovarian infection, and Lilian Martins Gomes, known as Lili Spada to her million Instagram followers, died of cancer at the age of 42 in December 2024.
The circumstances surrounding Morad’s death have received international media attention. Her final poignant message to fans has struck a chord with many, highlighting the sudden and unforeseen nature of her passing.
