Bob Bryar, the drummer of the acclaimed rock group My Chemical Romance from 2004 to 2014, was found dead in his Tennessee home on November 26, 2024. Bryar was 44 years old at the time of his passing.

Local law enforcement found Bryar’s body in a significantly decomposed state at his residence. He was last seen alive on November 4. The authorities have noted that his musical instruments and firearms were untouched, pointing towards no signs of foul play.

Upon discovering the body, Animal Control officers removed two dogs from the premises. The medical examiner is presently determining the cause and manner of death.

After encountering the band while they toured with The Used, Bryar joined My Chemical Romance in 2004, stepping in for original drummer Matt Pelissier following the launch of their “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge” album.

During his time with My Chemical Romance, Bryar played the drums for their 2006 album “The Black Parade,” which saw significant commercial success. He also contributed to the songwriting for the 2010 album “Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys,” but left the group before its launch.

After leaving My Chemical Romance, Bryar collaborated with other music artists before announcing his retirement from the music industry and moving into a career in real estate.

After his departure from the band, Bryar became involved in animal welfare causes, particularly dog rescue efforts. He auctioned his drum kit and uniform from The Black Parade tour to generate funds for animal shelters in his home state of Tennessee.

My Chemical Romance, which has planned a 10-city tour in July 2025, will perform “The Black Parade” in its entirety. Bryar, the longest-serving drummer in the history of the band, was not slated to participate in these reunion shows.

Following the news of Bryar’s death, the band asked for “patience and understanding as they process the news” in a released statement.

TMZ reported that Bryar had disclosed having suicidal thoughts after leaving My Chemical Romance. However, the police have not confirmed that suicide was the cause of the drummer’s death.
