London Rozier Best, a 24-year-old Amazon delivery driver, is facing numerous charges in connection with an alleged hit-and-run incident that led to the death of a 79-year-old woman in Canton, Georgia, on November 12, 2024. He then purportedly continued with his delivery schedule.
Best, a resident of Alpharetta, was arrested and charged with first-degree vehicular homicide and hit-and-run resulting in death. These charges arose after he allegedly hit Sandra Fitts with his delivery truck as she was crossing Cumming Highway near Jordan Lane, shortly after she had visited a family cemetery.
Deputies responded to the hit-and-run scene around 6:30 p.m., where evidence pointed to the involvement of an Amazon delivery truck. A deputy spotted a delivery truck turning onto Bishop Drive and called for support to track it down. The truck, which had damage consistent with the accident, was later identified as the vehicle involved in the collision.
Authorities arrested Best and stressed that had he stayed at the scene, he might have avoided felony charges. However, a subsequent search of the van yielded narcotics, leading to additional charges. These included possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, possession of a Schedule 1 narcotic (THC wax), and possession of drug-related objects.
Sandra Fitts, the victim of the incident, was a cherished member of the community. She was renowned as a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother with a deep affection for her family and a penchant for aiding stray cats. Her passing has had a significant influence on those who knew her.
An Amazon representative expressed the company’s grief over the incident and affirmed their full cooperation with the local police investigation. The spokesperson confirmed that Best, pending the outcome of the investigation, had been suspended from making deliveries.
Best is currently held without bond at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center.
In a similar incident in September 2024, an Amazon delivery van collided with a Toyota Sienna in Huntington Beach, California, resulting in the death of both occupants of the Sienna.
