A fatal pit bull attack occurred in Roxbury, Boston, Massachusetts, on Monday, November 18, resulting in the death of a 73-year-old woman and injuries to her husband and two police officers.
The female victim, named Jeriline Brady-McGinnis, suffered severe injuries during the assault which took place at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Dennison Street. Brady-McGinnis passed away later during surgery. The pit bull mix, known as Deuce, also attacked Brady-McGinnis’s husband when he tried to intervene and subsequently injured two Boston police officers who responded to the incident.
The police were compelled to shoot the dog three times during the incident. The animal, critically injured, was later euthanized due to its declining health and bleak prognosis, as reported by animal control officials.
The victim’s three sons, Chris, Ronald, and Donald paid tribute to their mother, describing her as a loving individual who always put her children first. “She was the heart and soul of our family,” they said in a public statement.
A neighbor reported that Brady-McGinnis regularly prepared meals for her pets and took special care of them.
The violent incident has sparked concerns among local residents who expressed fears about the four dogs residing at Brady-McGinnis’s property. These dogs were frequently kept in cages and were known for their loud barking.
Post the incident, Boston Animal Control removed three additional pit bull mix dogs from the premises for supervision by the city’s veterinary medical director.
The Boston Police homicide unit is investigating the case due to the serious nature of the injuries. Brady-McGinnis’s husband and the two officers who were injured are expected to recover from their non-life-threatening injuries.
