Celebrities Vow to Leave U.S. After Trump Win

Following the 2024 election victory of Donald Trump, numerous high-profile figures in Hollywood have declared their plans to move out of the United States. Their reasons encompass a variety of political, societal, and personal issues, which they feel have been exacerbated by this recent political shift.

These celebrities have conveyed their disappointment with the country’s trajectory, expressing apprehensions about policies they perceive as potentially harmful to reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ safeguards, environmental standards, and gun control regulations.

Cher, the renowned singer and actress, has been vocal about her stance, proclaiming, “I almost got an ulcer the last time,” alluding to health complications she alleges were due to earlier political stress. “If he gets in, who knows? This time I will leave [the country].”

Actress Sharon Stone has signaled her contemplation of buying a property in Italy, noting it’s the first time she has observed a candidate campaign on what she terms as “a platform of hate and oppression.”

Reportedly, America Ferrera is planning to relocate from the U.S. in light of Trump’s win. At the age of 40, she’s mulling over a fresh start in the UK with her spouse, Ryan Piers Williams, and their two offspring, Sebastian, six, and Lucia, four. Sources state Ferrera, famed for her part in “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” is in search of a better environment for her children.

Other notable names in the entertainment industry, such as Barbara Streisand, John Legend, Chrissy Teigen, Amy Schumer, Bruce Springsteen, and Samuel L. Jackson have also hinted at plans to relocate, with Streisand identifying England as her top choice.

Adding to the roster of entertainers reacting to the political landscape are Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande. Actress Christina Applegate has opened up about her family’s emotional response to the prevailing events.

This isn’t the first wave of celebrities announcing relocation plans in response to a Trump victory. A similar pattern occurred in 2016, with several stars voicing similar intentions, though not following through. Miley Cyrus, Amy Schumer, and Samuel L. Jackson were among the celebrities who made such statements during that period.

Some, like musician Tommy Lee, pledged to move back to his birthplace, Greece, while Bruce Springsteen mentioned Australia as a potential haven. Nonetheless, none of these celebrities ultimately relocated, a fact that led some observers to describe these declarations as merely rhetorical.
