Eduardo Xol, notable for his work on ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” died from injuries from a stabbing incident in Palm Springs, California.

Xol, age 58, was critically wounded on September 10, 2024, and passed away from his injuries on September 20. His death was confirmed by the Riverside County Coroner and has led to Richard Joseph Gonzales, 34, being charged with murder. Gonzales was arrested shortly after the incident.

From 2005 to 2012, Xol appeared in over 65 episodes of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” earning national recognition as a landscape designer. Xol also had a career in music and acting, appearing in telenovelas like “Acapulco,” “Cuerpo y Alma,” and “La Jaula de Oro.” His creativity and empathy left a lasting impression on viewers and peers.

“We are heartbroken at the tragic loss of our beloved Eduardo Xol. As his family, we know that his kindness has touched the lives of so many. We ask for that kindness returned now, allowing our privacy to be respected as we process our grief,” the Xol family stated to People.

On September 10, Palm Springs police received a distress call from Xol, who managed to report his stabbing but couldn’t identify his assailant. Police discovered Xol in his apartment on East Arenas Road, suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center, where he remained in serious condition for several days.

Later that same day, Richard Joseph Gonzales, an acquaintance of Xol, contacted police claiming he had been assaulted the previous night. Investigators soon linked Gonzales to the stabbing and arrested him on charges of attempted murder. Following Xol’s death, the charges were elevated to murder. Gonzales is currently detained without bail at the John Benoit Detention Center, with his trial expected to start later this year.

Richard Perez-Feria, former editor-in-chief of People en Español, expressed his shock and sadness over Xol’s untimely death. Perez-Feria described Xol as a cherished and passionate individual who played a significant role in his life.

The Xol family underscored Eduardo’s lifelong commitment to service and aid, noting that his contributions reached far beyond his television career. They recognized his charitable efforts and his keen desire to help those in need. In lieu of flowers, the family asked for donations to the Lupus Foundation of America in Xol’s honor.

Xol’s work on television brought pleasure to many viewers, and his contributions to “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” had a profound impact on the communities where homes were built and renovated. His colleagues remembered him as someone whose dedication to his work was matched by his generosity and kindness.

As the investigation into Xol’s death continues, the nature of the relationship between Xol and Gonzales remains unclear. While police have confirmed the men knew each other, the specifics of their association have not been disclosed. A potential motive for the attack has also not been shared by authorities.

Gonzales has not yet entered a plea, and it is uncertain whether he has secured legal representation. He remains in custody, awaiting trial on murder charges.
