Sarah Danser, a well-known figure in reality television, passed away on October 22, 2024, following a vehicular accident in Kahala, Hawaii. The 34-year-old starred in several seasons of the Discovery Channel’s series “Naked and Afraid”.
The fatal incident unfolded on October 20 when the 59-year-old male driver of the car, in which Danser was a passenger, lost control and collided with a stationary vehicle. Despite being belted in, Danser was critically injured and admitted to the hospital. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries two days later.
The driver, who had not buckled his seatbelt, suffered severe injuries. Of the two people in the parked car at the time of the collision, one was hurt while another declined medical treatment. While speed was found to be a factor in the crash, Honolulu police have confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol were involved.
Danser, born August 10, 1990, in Castle Rock, Colorado, had a life filled with maritime activities and survival challenges. An adept survivalist, she featured in several seasons of “Naked and Afraid,” including Season 8 in 2017, Season 11 in 2020, and Seasons 4, 6, and 7 of “Naked and Afraid XL” in 2018, 2020, and 2021 respectively. The last time she appeared on television was on the CW’s “Fight to Survive” in August 2023.
Her co-star on “Naked and Afraid,” Melissa Lauren, remembered Danser on Facebook as a remarkably adventurous individual. Lauren praised Danser’s robust survival capabilities, recalling their joint stint on “Naked and Afraid XL” in South Africa. She also acknowledged Danser’s bravery in battling breast cancer twice and maintaining a positive demeanor throughout her treatment. Lauren depicted Danser as a lover of the ocean, nature, and exploration, dubbing her a “modern-day pirate.”
Hawaii had been Danser’s residence for the last 12 years, where she worked as a boat captain and scuba diving instructor for Island Divers Hawaii. She also lived part-time on a boat in Kewalo Basin, making it easier to pursue her passion for travel and adventure.
Danser had become a significant part of the local diving community in Hawaii. The scuba diving center where she worked, Island Divers Hawaii, expressed their grief over losing a cherished friend and competent captain on their Facebook page. They remembered Danser’s positive influence on those around her and stated that her presence would be greatly missed.
Danser’s father, Dan, and her brother, Jake, were at the hospital during her last moments. Island Divers Hawaii has announced plans to erect a memorial in her memory.
