King Charles Issues Deadline to Brother

The Duke of York, Prince Andrew, is grappling with the challenge of securing financial resources for essential renovations at his long-term dwelling, the Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park. He has been given a deadline until the end of 2024 to show that he can provide approximately $2.6 million for the required refurbishments or risk eviction from the historic estate.

Valued at an estimated $37 million, the vast estate has been Andrew’s residence since 2003, under a 75-year lease agreement with the Crown Estate. The upkeep of the 30-room mansion, however, has been a financial burden, especially after the cessation of financial aid from King Charles III. With the annual $3.8 million funding previously allocated for Andrew’s security costs cut off, the Duke has had to resort to more affordable security measures to help him stay in the Royal Lodge.

With Andrew’s ability to meet the property’s financial obligations in question, discussions regarding his potential future living arrangements have emerged. King Charles has suggested Frogmore Cottage as a potential substitute. The cottage, previously inhabited by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, is a smaller and more cost-effective alternative to the Royal Lodge, despite its high upkeep costs. Andrew, however, has reportedly declined the offer several times, due to the significant disparity in size compared to his current residence.

While Andrew has already invested over $250,000 in temporary roof repairs, these efforts have been deemed insufficient. A source from within the royal circle reports that the Crown Estate is seeking assurance that he can carry out a comprehensive renovation, rather than just minor repairs.

According to informed sources, King Charles’ patience is reportedly thinning. The Duke is at a crucial juncture and must prove his ability to finance the extensive repairs. Otherwise, the Crown Estate might start contemplating his exit from the Royal Lodge.

If Andrew is unable to raise the requisite funds, the Crown Estate may repurpose the Royal Lodge for commercial use or as a residence for other members of the royal family. As the important deadline looms, Andrew’s future in Windsor Great Park remains uncertain.
