Ryan Seacrest’s inaugural stint as the host of “Wheel of Fortune” has elicited varied responses, with some viewers expressing dissatisfaction with his style. Seacrest officially replaced Pat Sajak, the show’s long-term host, in September 2024. However, some viewers believe the transition has been less than fluid, criticizing Seacrest’s management of critical situations in the show.

In an episode that aired on September 16, contestant Vivian reached the bonus round and narrowly missed winning $1 million. Seacrest’s revelation of the missed prize visibly distressed Vivian, and his subsequent jovial response was not well received by several viewers.

A clip was later circulated on “Wheel of Fortune’s” Instagram account, provoking further disappointment from some viewers regarding Seacrest’s handling of Vivian’s loss.

One viewer observed that Seacrest routinely shows the prize envelope to the contestant rather than the audience and those at home. This same viewer also criticized Seacrest’s interaction with the disheartened contestant.

Another viewer concurred, suggesting that Seacrest may not have fully grasped the emotional significance of the situation.

Some viewers surmised that Seacrest displayed a lack of empathy, with one speculating whether Seacrest’s wealth hindered his ability to empathize with less financially fortunate contestants.

Viewers also contrasted Seacrest’s attitude with that of former host Sajak. They argued that Sajak would have handled such a situation differently. Some viewers felt Seacrest’s laughter was inappropriate, believing Sajak would have maintained composure under similar circumstances. One viewer remembered Seacrest making a casual remark to the contestant, contrasting it with Sajak’s more serious and empathetic responses.

Since Seacrest, 49, started hosting, various changes to “Wheel of Fortune” have sparked criticism. Some viewers believe the show now seems overly produced and lacks the authenticity of the direct format they were accustomed to.

The new set design, characterized by brighter colors and a contemporary aesthetic, has particularly polarized opinions. Several long-time fans have expressed dissatisfaction with the updated look, labeling it as excessive and lacking the charm of the original.

Beyond these changes, Seacrest has been criticized for not providing a more significant tribute to former host Sajak during his debut episode. Considering Sajak’s 40-year stint, many fans anticipated a more sincere acknowledgment of his contributions. Although Seacrest had praised Sajak in pre-debut interviews, some viewers felt the on-air acknowledgment was insufficient.

Despite these criticisms, Seacrest has received support from viewers who believe he should be granted time to adapt to his new role. They argue that filling such an iconic position is challenging and that Seacrest will likely settle into his role with time.

So far, the “Wheel of Fortune” team has not publicly addressed any criticism regarding Seacrest’s performance or the changes to the show’s format. As the season unfolds, it remains uncertain whether Seacrest can sway long-time fans, or if the show will continue to face opposition.
