At the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois, NBA star Steph Curry unexpectedly appeared on Thursday, August 22, 2024. He endorsed presidential candidate Kamala Harris in an emotional video message. The point guard for the Golden State Warriors just led Team USA to victory at the Paris Olympics, earning a gold medal. He noted Harris’ potential to bring unity to the nation and encouraged citizens to vote in the upcoming election.

In his video message, Curry, with his Olympic gold medal around his neck, stated, “This is about preserving hope and belief in our country.” He expressed his belief that Harris is perfectly fit for the presidency and that he feels honored to back her. He stressed the need for collective involvement and encouraged everyone to vote.

Curry is celebrated for his exceptional basketball skills and his commitment to social issues. He expressed faith in Harris’ leadership abilities. His connection with Harris is rooted in their mutual origins in the San Francisco Bay Area. Harris, a native of Oakland, has been a long-time supporter of the Warriors. Curry got a chance to meet her when the Warriors visited the White House following their 2022 championship triumph.

Several notable sports personalities offered their political views during the convention. Among them was Curry’s coach, Steve Kerr, the head coach of the Golden State Warriors. Kerr spoke on the first day of the convention and also endorsed Harris for president. He detailed his decision to accept an invitation to speak at the DNC, a departure from his usual environment.

Kerr shared his perspective on leadership, emphasizing the need for leaders to maintain dignity, truthfulness, a sense of humor about themselves, and a genuine concern for those they lead. Kerr pointed out that he saw these qualities in Harris and her vice presidential candidate, Tim Walz.

Kerr ended his speech by referencing a popular celebration gesture by Warriors’ star Steph Curry, known as the “Night, Night.” Kerr said that once the election results are official, they would, in Curry’s words, be able to tell Donald Trump, “Night, night!”
