A shooting at the Academy Sports + Outdoors Store at Festival Centre in Mobile, Alabama on July 4, 2024, resulted in a fatality, causing a wave of shock throughout the local community. The shooting incident was reported to have started at around 4:54 p.m. in the store’s parking lot, with several gunshots heard.
Responding officers discovered 22-year-old DeShaun Bonner at the scene with a gunshot wound. Bonner was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
An unnamed eyewitness recounted the scene, saying, “I was sitting in my car, and all of a sudden, I heard gunshots. I saw a bunch of guys running around just shooting at a vehicle.” According to this witness, about 15 to 20 shots were fired by four or five men carrying handguns.
After the shooting, Mobile Police discovered a silver sedan with its emergency flashers on, parked outside the Springhill Medical Center emergency room. The vehicle is believed to be linked to the shooting incident.
To aid their investigation, the police have released a photograph of a male who they believe was one of the shooters. The investigation is still ongoing and no suspects have been named so far. Police encouraged anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
