Jaiane Oliveira, a 34-year-old Brazilian cyclist and mother of two, met a tragic end during a race in Baianópolis, Brazil on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

Oliveira was struck by another bicycle during the race, causing her to lose control and collide with a sound truck stationed by the track. The impact of the crash led to a large speaker falling on her. This occurred in the section just before the finish line. The Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) paramedics, who were present at the event, swiftly offered assistance before transporting her to a nearby hospital. However, despite their efforts, Oliveira succumbed to her serious head injuries.
Video footage of the incident shows another cyclist moving perilously close to Oliveira, causing her to veer off course and collide with the sound truck. This resulted in the deadly fall of the 6-foot speaker. Local law enforcement arrived to investigate, but the sound truck had already departed, adding complexity to the investigation.
Oliveira, a resident of Luís Eduardo Magalhães, was an enthusiastic participant in local cycling races. She leaves behind her husband, who also participated in the race, and their twin sons. The race organizers, Dubai Bikers, acknowledged the profound loss via social media, stating, “The loss of this special person leaves a deep void in our hearts.”
Another racer involved in the accident was thrown off their bike but managed to avoid significant injuries and completed the race.
