Investigators have identified the victim in a disturbing case that spans Yonkers, New York and the Bronx, New York City.

The body, discovered early Monday morning, August 5, 2024, in a shopping cart under the Oak Street Bridge in Yonkers, has been identified as 46-year-old Lutalo Henderson, a resident of the Bronx.

Firefighters responded to a call about a fire under the bridge around 2 a.m. Upon extinguishing the flames, they found a dismembered, burnt body inside the cart. The body had been severely mutilated, with its hands, feet, and teeth removed, likely to prevent identification. The NYPD quickly took over the investigation from Yonkers authorities.

Further investigation led police to Henderson’s apartment at 903 Rogers Place in the Bronx, where more human remains were discovered. The scene inside the apartment was even more macabre, with hands found soaking in a slow cooker filled with bleach and legs stored in a freezer. A firearm and drug paraphernalia were also recovered from the scene, suggesting a broader criminal operation.

Surveillance footage from the Bronx shows two men pushing a cart, believed to be the same one later found on fire in Yonkers. The footage also revealed that the cart, containing Henderson’s dismembered body, was transported from the Bronx to Yonkers via a Metro-North train.

Despite these leads, no arrests have been made, though police have identified two persons of interest captured on surveillance video near the crime scenes. The NYPD is continuing its investigation, with the Bronx District Attorney’s Office closely involved.

The motive for this gruesome crime remains unclear, and the NYPD is urging anyone with information to come forward. The Crime Stoppers hotline has been activated to assist in gathering tips that could lead to a breakthrough in the case.
