A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday, July 13, as Brazilian musician Ayres Sasaki, aged 35, was fatally electrocuted during a live performance at the Solar Hotel in Salinópolis, Pará state, Brazil. The unfortunate event took place when Sasaki hugged a fan who was drenched, causing a nearby cable to emit a lethal electric shock.
Various media reports suggest that the electrocution occurred while Sasaki was playing his guitar on stage. The Pará Civil Police have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the matter. A representative from the police department informed Istoé Gente, “We are interviewing witnesses and have requested expert reports to determine the precise cause of the electrical discharge.”
Following the incident, the Solar Hotel issued a statement on July 14, expressing their condolences and pledging full support to the ongoing investigation. “We are fully dedicated to providing support to his family and taking the necessary measures. We reaffirm our commitment to fully cooperating with the competent authorities for the proper clarification of the events,” the hotel announced via its official Instagram account.
Sasaki’s aunt, Rita Matos, stated that the family is currently gathering information to comprehend the sequence of events that led to the tragedy.
The sudden death of Sasaki has triggered a wave of sorrow among his fans and peers. Raphael Macedo, a filmmaker and a close associate of Sasaki, remembered him as a vibrant personality and a gifted musician. “Ayres was more than just a talented musician; he was a joyful and kind friend. His loss is deeply felt by everyone who knew him,” Macedo told Hindustan Times.
Apart from being a musician, Sasaki was also a practicing architect and urban planner. He had married his wife, Mariana, just 11 months prior to the incident. Mariana expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support and condolences she has received during this challenging time. “I am deeply touched by the messages of affection and comfort. Ayres was loved by many, and his music brought joy to countless people,” she shared on social media.
In response to the incident, the Solar Hotel’s management has assured the public that they are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of their guests and prevent similar incidents in the future.
This is not the first case of such a tragic incident in Brazil. In 2023, Brazilian gospel singer Pedro Henrique also met his untimely death on stage during a live performance in Feira de Santana. Henrique’s death was also caused by an accidental electrocution, underlining the potential risks associated with live performances and electrical equipment.
As the probe into Sasaki’s death continues, his fans have taken to social media to pay tribute to the late singer. His official Instagram page has been flooded with condolence messages and fond memories of Sasaki’s performances. One fan wrote, “Your music and spirit will live on in our hearts. Rest in peace, Ayres.” Another added, “Thank you for the joy you brought into our lives through your music.”
Ayres Sasaki is survived by his wife Mariana and other family members, who continue to receive support from fans and loved ones. The family has requested privacy during this time as they grieve their loss and await further details from the ongoing investigation.
