Keke Jabbar, a star of the highly-rated OWN reality series, “Love & Marriage: Huntsville,” has died. The news was first confirmed by a statement from her family, read by blogger Marcella Speaks during a YouTube livestream on July 2, 2024. Jabbar, a resident of Huntsville, Alabama, was 42 at the time of her passing.

The family’s statement expressed their grief, “It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Keke. She passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by love. She was a mom, a sister, and a great friend full of life, love, and laughter. She will be sorely missed, and at this time, we are asking for respect and privacy in our moment of grief while we process this great loss,” the statement read.

Born Na’Keisha Dawson-Jabbar, she was known and loved for her vibrant personality and forthright presence on the reality show, which tracks the lives of three African-American couples in Huntsville, Alabama. The show documents their relationships and real estate business endeavors, and Jabbar’s warmth and dedication to her family proved a hit with many viewers.

Following her death, a close family friend, JoAnn Jenkins, revealed the cause of death to be carbon monoxide poisoning. In a statement addressing rumors about Jabbar’s death, Jenkins stated, “Keke did not overdose; Keke did not take her own life. Keke loved life and wasn’t ready to leave her children or her family.” She explained that Jabbar fell asleep in her car following a vehicle malfunction and was later found unresponsive by her husband in their garage.

LaTisha Scott, Jabbar’s cousin and co-star, used social media to express her grief and request privacy for the family during this challenging time. “This is hard for our Family!!!!! At this time we are asking for RESPECT, and PRIVACY in our moment of grief, while we process this great loss,” Scott posted on Instagram.

In a recent social media post, Jabbar shared images from her eldest son Amaree’s high school graduation. “My firstborn graduated from high school yesterday, and it was such an emotional experience. I didn’t expect 18 years to go by this fast! We’re so proud of you, Amaree. Go shine like the star you are!!!” she wrote, demonstrating her deep love for her children.

In addition to her television work, Jabbar was a writer, editor, and professor, frequently sharing her own and her family’s achievements on social media. Her work in education and her role as a mother were significant aspects of her identity, making her death a profound loss to those who knew her.

Jabbar is survived by her three children, her husband, and her parents.

Funeral arrangements for Jabbar have been made, and a public viewing took place on Sunday, July 7.
