A 17-year-old male has been apprehended in connection with the murder of Trinity Bostic, a 17-year-old girl from Macon County, Tennessee who vanished last month. Bostic’s remains were found on July 3, 2024, by a subcontractor of the Tennessee Department of Transportation along a high-traffic road in Hendersonville, Tennessee, roughly 45 miles away from her Lafayette residence.

The Hendersonville Police Department announced on Saturday morning that they had taken a suspect into custody. The young man, hailing from Westmoreland, Tennessee, now resides in the Sumner County Detention Center, standing accused of first-degree murder. As he is underage, his identity has been kept confidential. He was a schoolmate and classmate of Bostic.

On June 29, Bostic was reported missing as a runaway, triggering a wave of worry and a search operation within her community. A friend revealed that Bostic had sent her a text saying she was leaving home. Her remains were discovered by a worker collecting garbage near Vietnam Veterans Boulevard and New Shackle Island Road. The grim discovery sent shockwaves through Hendersonville and neighboring regions.

Sgt. Nicholas Edwards of the Hendersonville Police Department has confirmed that the investigation into Bostic’s death is being treated as a homicide. “We suspected foul play from the beginning,” Edwards affirmed.

Details surrounding the circumstances of Bostic’s death or the events that occurred after she was reported missing have not been divulged by the police. An autopsy is still pending to determine the cause of death.

In a public statement, the Hendersonville Police Department asked for the public’s help. “We are still gathering information and encourage anyone who knows anything about Trinity Bostic’s disappearance or death to contact us. Every piece of information is valuable,” the statement read.

Trinity’s friends and family are grappling with the enormity of their loss. Friends Jaycee Meador and Khloe Redfield voiced their disbelief and grief at the news of her death. “Trinity was the light of our lives. She was kind, caring, and had so much potential. It’s heartbreaking to think she’s gone,” Jaycee said. Khloe added, “We can’t believe this happened to her. She didn’t deserve this. We hope justice will be served.”

The news of the arrest has elicited a mixed response of relief and grief from the community. Many hope that this arrest will provide more clarity and justice for Trinity. The case has garnered considerable attention, underscoring the importance of community involvement and vigilance in such tragic circumstances.

Efforts to support Bostic’s family have also started among her friends and classmates. A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to defray funeral costs. “I started it thinking it would not do that well, but it just started to blow up,” Landon Connor, a classmate, said. “We’re hoping it continues to draw in money for the family.” The fundraising effort has so far raised over $12,000.
