Pat Sajak, the celebrated host of “Wheel of Fortune,” is preparing to bid adieu to the show after an impressive stint of 41 seasons and 43 years. The final episodes featuring Sajak have been recorded and are set to be aired on June 7, 2024, marking an end to an era in the iconic game show.

Last year, Sajak, 77, publicized his retirement plans and expressed his gratitude for the journey. “Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last,” Sajak said. “It’s been an incredible journey, and I’ll share more details in the upcoming months. Thank you all so much.”

Pat Sajak began his stint as host of “Wheel of Fortune” in 1981 when the show was being aired on network daytime television. His co-host, Vanna White, 67, joined him a year later. In 1983, the show transitioned to nighttime television and rapidly became one of the top-rated syndicated TV programs. Sajak and White quickly rose to fame, entertaining millions of viewers.

Reflecting upon his career, Sajak noted the benefits of working in local television in Los Angeles, explaining that it put him under the gaze of key decision-makers every night. This visibility undoubtedly contributed to Merv Griffin, the creator of “Wheel of Fortune,” choosing him to replace Chuck Woolery as host.

As Sajak prepares to depart, the future of the show remains secure. Vanna White will continue her role as co-host, with Ryan Seacrest, 49, announced as Sajak’s replacement. Seacrest, recognized for his role in hosting “American Idol,” expressed his honor and respect for Sajak’s legacy. “I am incredibly honored to follow in the footsteps of the iconic Pat Sajak. Like many Americans, I’ve found it a privilege and a joy to watch Pat and Vanna on TV for an amazing 40 years, bringing smiles to our faces and making us feel at home,” Seacrest said.

Vanna White’s contract will run through the 2025-2026 season, ensuring her presence on the show for at least two more years. In her absence, Sajak’s daughter, Maggie, will occasionally step in. White expressed confidence in Maggie’s capabilities, stating, “I think she’s a good replacement if I can’t be there for some reason. She’s been around it her whole life, so I think she can definitely fill in for me.”

The final week of Sajak’s shows will carry the theme “Thanks for the Memories,” celebrating his tenure spanning decades. The producers have prepared a compilation of his funniest moments that will be aired during these episodes, providing a nostalgic journey for long-time fans.

Moving forward, Sajak plans to remain active beyond “Wheel of Fortune.” He will continue serving as chairman of the Board of Trustees for Hillsdale College in Michigan, a position he has held for many years.

As Sajak’s final episode draws near, fans and colleagues are preparing to bid farewell to a television icon. His contribution to the success of the show is widely recognized. A producer noted, “Pat’s ability to connect with contestants and audiences alike is unmatched. His humor, warmth, and consistency have been the cornerstone of ‘Wheel of Fortune’ for over four decades.”

Ryan Seacrest, acknowledging the importance of his new role, added, “It’s an honor to continue the legacy that Pat has built. I’m looking forward to bringing my style to the show while respecting the traditions that have made ‘Wheel of Fortune’ a beloved part of American culture.”
