A tragic accident occurred in Limeira, São Paulo, Brazil, where a 38-year-old bride, Elisangela Gazano, died during her wedding celebration. Gazano had married her partner the previous day and was celebrating her nuptials and her daughter’s birthday at a rented country house. She slipped and fell into a swimming pool, causing her death.
Gazano, who couldn’t swim, was dancing near the pool when she lost her footing. Eyewitnesses recounted her fall, which led to immediate rescue attempts by the guests.
Despite the prompt response of the guests and the quick arrival of emergency personnel, Gazano, a mother of five, suffered a cardiac arrest while en route to the hospital. She was declared dead upon arrival.
Gazano had posted photographs on social media before the accident. These images depict her in a white wedding gown, signing marriage documents—a stark contrast to the day’s fatal outcome. The images, intended to capture her happiness, instead serve as a poignant reminder of her sudden death.
Flavia Silva, Gazano’s friend, expressed her sorrow on social media: “I saw you recently at the market, so excited about your wedding. It’s heartbreaking how quickly joy turned to sorrow on the same day. Wherever you are now, I want you to know it was a privilege to have known you.”
The Limeira law enforcement agencies have classified Gazano’s death as an accident. This has done little to ease the shock among her loved ones, who remember her as a lively and joyful person. A friend said, “Your joy was contagious, your laughter was the best, and when you put it together with mine, everyone stopped to look at you.”
Reports indicate that Gazano had a fear of water, known as aquaphobia. This phobia may have contributed to the severity of the situation when she fell into the pool. Her sisters and friends mentioned that her fear of water was well-known among those close to her.
