The unexpected demise of Keith Miller III, a football player from Texas A&M-Commerce, has left a profound impact on his family and the university community. The 23-year-old was discovered deceased in his apartment close to the Commerce, Texas campus on the evening of April 11, 2024. The cause of his death remains unknown as the investigation continues.

Born in The Colony, Texas, Miller was widely admired for his athletic skills as well as his dynamic personality and leadership abilities. He played a crucial role on the A&M-Commerce Lions team, serving as the captain in the 2023 season. He was recognized for his significant presence, both on the field and in personal interactions.

His football career started at The Colony High School where he emerged as a standout player. His talent took him to the Colorado Buffaloes before he transferred to Texas to play for A&M-Commerce. In his two seasons with the Lions, he made notable contributions as a wide receiver.

Clint Dolezel, the university’s head coach, expressed his deep sorrow over Miller’s sudden death. In light of this tragic event, Texas A&M-Commerce has increased counseling services to assist students dealing with the loss. The entire Lion community, comprising students, faculty, and alumni, have been urged to unite in this difficult time to support each other and remember Miller’s legacy.

Brenden Rice, a former teammate of Miller at Colorado and the son of NFL Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice, shared his grief publicly. Now a player at USC, Rice reflected on their time together, stating, “Keith was not just a teammate but a brother to me.” He vowed to look after Miller’s son, underscoring the strong personal connections formed during their shared experiences.
