Reports suggest that Prince Harry, also known as the Duke of Sussex, is experiencing restlessness in his home in Montecito, California. He currently lives there with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The Duke, aged 39, along with his family, made the move from London to California in January 2020. This decision followed their resignation as senior members of the British royal family. Tom Quinn, a royal family author, speculates that Prince Harry finds the Californian city life monotonous and longs for his former royal responsibilities.
In an interview with the Mirror, Quinn, who wrote “Queen Mary to Meghan Markle,” stated that Prince Harry has known no life outside of royalty. He suggested that to keep his global appeal and relevance, it might have been more beneficial for him not to retire from his royal duties. Quinn also mentioned that the Duke is contemplating visiting the United Kingdom more often, especially given his father, King Charles’ recent cancer diagnosis.
Prince Harry quickly returned to the UK earlier this month upon hearing about his father’s illness. Quinn observed that the prince appeared visibly shaken by the news of King Charles’ condition, having expected his father to have a similar lifespan as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, despite their health issues. Queen Elizabeth passed away in September 2022 at the age of 96, while the Duke of Edinburgh died at 99 in 2021.
As per Quinn, Prince Harry realizes that he will not be permitted to serve as a part-time working royal, dividing his time between the US and the UK. Quinn attributes this to family distrust and Meghan’s disapproval. In a “Good Morning America” interview, Prince Harry told host Will Reeve that he intends to travel back to England soon.
During the interview, which was broadcast on February 16, Prince Harry admitted he has thought about acquiring US citizenship but it’s not a pressing issue. As per the US Citizen and Immigration Services, he would have to give up his royal status to become a US citizen. The law requires any applicant with inherited titles or noble positions from any foreign state to renounce them.
