On Saturday, March 9, a tragic incident occurred in the Caribbean where a British couple lost their lives in a suspected drowning accident. The couple was vacationing on Carriacou, an island in the Grenadines which is a part of Grenada.
The couple, identified as David John Foster, age 76, and Rosaline Foster, age 77, were visiting Paradise Beach on Carriacou when the incident took place. The Royal Grenada Police Force, who are currently investigating the case, believe the couple may have drowned near L’Esterre village.
David Foster was found lifeless on the beach by local law enforcement and was declared dead at the location. Rosaline Foster was rushed to the Princess Royal Hospital but could not be revived and was declared dead later.
As per Cpl. Ardell Lewis of the Royal Grenada Police Force, initial reports suggest that Mr. Foster may have suffered a heart attack which may have led to Mrs. Foster’s attempts to save him, resulting in her own drowning. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with a post-mortem examination expected to conclusively determine the cause of death.
The Fosters, who were retired, were reportedly in Grenada with family. The Royal Grenada Police Force has expressed its dedication to fully investigating the circumstances surrounding the couple’s deaths.
Following this tragic event, the UK Foreign Office has confirmed that it is providing assistance to the deceased couple’s family and working closely with the Grenadian authorities.
Paradise Beach, where the incident occurred, is known for its outstanding beauty and was named the best Caribbean beach in 2022 for its crystal-clear turquoise waters. Carriacou, renowned for its cultural heritage and natural beauty, is a favorite destination for individuals seeking tranquility and stunning vistas.
This unfortunate event coincides with the disturbing news about an American couple visiting Grenada. Ralph Hendry and Kathy Brandel, who were avid sailors, have been missing since February 18, 2024, and are feared dead after their yacht was reportedly taken over by three escaped convicts.
The fugitives, identified as Ron Mitchell (30), Trevon Robertson (19), and Abita Stanislaus (25), fled to another island using the couple’s yacht. While the police have classified the couple’s disappearance as murder, no physical evidence has been found to date.
The convicts were recaptured on February 21, the same day the yacht was found. Authorities have suggested that the couple may have lost their lives during the escapees’ hijacking of their yacht. On February 22, officials announced that the three escapees had sailed to St. Vincent on a yacht docked in the St. George region of Grenada after their escape on February 18.
Commissioner Don McKenzie of the Royal Grenada Police Force announced in a press conference on February 26 evidence suggesting that the fugitives may have disposed of the yacht’s owners, Hendry and Brandel, while sailing between Grenada and St. Vincent.
