Rudy Giuliani Claims Trump Campaign Owes Him $2M

Rudolph Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, New York, and ex-lawyer for Donald Trump, has alleged that the Trump 2020 campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC) owe him nearly $2 million in legal fees.

Giuliani made these allegations on Wednesday, February 7, during a bankruptcy court hearing in New York. This follows his December filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after being hit with a $148 million civil judgment for slandering two Georgia election workers by accusing them of voter fraud during the 2020 election ballot count in Fulton County.

In his December bankruptcy filing, Giuliani estimated his debts ranged from $100 million to $500 million, while his assets were reported to be around $10 million.

Following the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump tasked Giuliani with spearheading the legal battle against the election results in favor of Joe Biden. Giuliani, who played a pivotal role in these efforts across various states, insists he was guaranteed payment for his legal services in addition to expenses. He alleges that while the Trump campaign reimbursed some costs, it did not cover the promised legal fees, which total approximately $2 million.

The accusations emerged during a thorough review of Giuliani’s finances at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York. Giuliani revealed that he had received reimbursement for expenses but was not paid a salary for his legal work, which further compounded his financial difficulties.

The suspension of Giuliani’s law license following the January 6, 2021 assault on the U.S. Capitol has significantly reduced his income potential, further exacerbating his financial woes.

Giuliani’s bankruptcy filings disclose substantial debts, including over $700,000 owed to the Internal Revenue Service, more than $280,000 in unpaid state and city taxes in New York, disputed Country Club membership fees, and various personal liabilities.

Given these financial difficulties, Giuliani maintains that he is entitled to the unpaid legal fees from the Trump campaign and the RNC. His legal team has stated that these claims will be addressed during the bankruptcy proceedings, aiming to settle Giuliani’s financial disputes.

Ted Goodman, an adviser to Giuliani, issued a statement highlighting Giuliani’s commitment and criticizing what he sees as the politicization of the judiciary. Goodman’s statement portrays Giuliani’s financial and legal struggles as indicative of wider political and judicial biases.

As Giuliani addresses his complex financial and legal issues, the resolution of his claims for unpaid legal fees from the Trump campaign and the RNC is keenly awaited.
