South Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun, recognized for his performance in the Academy Award-winning film “Parasite,” was discovered lifeless in a suspected suicide case. This incident occurred after his recent exit from the forthcoming film “No Way Out” in the wake of a drug investigation.

Reports suggest that the actor was discovered unresponsive in his vehicle on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, in a car park located in Seoul, South Korea.

The 48-year-old actor, who rose to global prominence for his role as the father in “Parasite,” was recently in the spotlight due to drug use allegations. These charges led to his withdrawal from the upcoming dark comedy film “No Way Out.”

Lee’s departure occurred as law enforcement agencies were investigating him for potential drug use. Studio X+U, the company producing the film, noted that Lee decided to step away from the project to handle the situation, and the film’s production would proceed as scheduled.

The Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency started an investigation involving eight individuals, including Lee, on possible drug use in local bars and residences. Lee’s legal representative stated that the actor would fully cooperate with the investigation, although there was no direct admission or denial of the drug use allegations.

Lee’s legal issues and the resulting career implications seem to have heavily affected the actor. Preliminary indications suggest that the cause of death could be carbon monoxide poisoning, a common method of suicide in South Korea.

The actor’s career reached impressive heights following the extraordinary success of “Parasite” at renowned events such as the Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Awards.

Lee’s extensive and varied career includes notable roles in the suspenseful 2012 film “Helpless” and the well-received 2014 film “All About My Wife.”

In recent times, Lee had been captivating viewers with his lead role in Apple TV+’s Korean-language original series, “Dr. Brain,” demonstrating his versatile talent in television.
