The North Las Vegas, Nevada community was left in shock following the killing of Nick Davi, a 46-year-old pastor at Grace Point Church. Davi was shot dead by his 36-year-old female neighbor, Joe Junio, over a property dispute. The incident took place on December 29, 2023, at his townhouse at the Courts at Aliante community.
The fatal shooting transpired outside the family’s residence in a gated community, with Sarah Davi, Nick’s spouse, also injured in the attack. According to court documents, the disagreement between the Davi family and Junio heightened after Davi reported property violations to the homeowners’ association and Junio found out about the complaint
The violations were linked to Junio’s chickens and dogs, which allegedly breached community regulations. In the weeks leading to the shooting, Junio’s actions reportedly escalated in hostility. This involved throwing feces and rocks onto the Davi property, flooding their home, and making menacing gestures, including drawing her finger across her throat and saying “They were next.”
The Davi family, alarmed by these events, sought temporary protection and relocated for their safety. The deadly incident happened as the family, along with their two children, were preparing to vacate their residence.
As Junio drove by and stopped near the family, an altercation ensued. When Nick Davi questioned her, Junio reportedly exited her car and started shooting, hitting Nick in the stomach and then Sarah. Nick later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
The couple’s children, aged 12 and 15, witnessed the tragic event from a nearby vehicle. One of them managed to film the incident, providing vital evidence for the impending court proceedings.
Sarah Davi has since initiated a wrongful death lawsuit against Junio, seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The lawsuit alleges that the homeowners’ association, although not named, was aware of the complaints against Junio and should have anticipated her propensity for violent retaliation. It further claims that Junio was without a permit for the firearm used in the shooting.
Junio, currently in custody on a $300,000 bail, is facing numerous charges, including murder, attempted murder, and child abuse. The case has attracted significant attention, with the preliminary court hearing set for March 2024.
Nick Davi is remembered by colleagues and friends as a peaceful individual known for his kindness and contributions to his church and the local community. A memorial service held in his honor drew a large crowd, reflecting the influence he had on many.
