The body of a missing student-athlete from The University of Massachusetts (UMass)-Dartmouth was found Tuesday.

Officials from the school confirmed the recovery of sophomore student Flordan “Flo” Bazile, 21, from a river in Massachusetts.

Bazile, a prominent track star at the university, was found on January 16, 2024, following extensive water and land searches.

He was last seen at Pine Dale Hall dormitories on Monday at the university’s main campus around 2 a.m.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, which has been closely involved in the case, reported no suspicion of foul play in Bazile’s death, which is being treated as a suicide.

His body was found in the Acushnet River, roughly seven miles from his UMass-Dartmouth dorm.

Mark Fuller, the Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, issued a statement acknowledging Bazile as a valued member of the Charlton College of Business undergraduate program.

He extended condolences to Bazile’s family, friends, teammates, and classmates and affirmed that the university plans to honor Bazile’s memory and celebrate his life on campus.

An accomplished sprinter, Bazile held the UMass Dartmouth record for the 100-meter dash

His most recent accomplishments include being named the 2024 Little East Conference Track and Field Athlete of the Week and Track and Field Rookie Athlete of the Week in consecutive weeks.

In 2022, he was also recognized as the Little East Conference Rookie Track Athlete of the Year.

Bazile, a native of Orlando, Florida, attended high school in Massachusetts.

He is being remembered by those who know him as hard-working, energetic, a champion, and a great friend.
