The respected hairstyling industry figure, Angus Mitchell, renowned as the son of legendary stylist Paul Mitchell, has passed away at the age of 53.
His death was confirmed in the wake of reports stating that he was found in his Honolulu, Hawaii residence’s swimming pool.
On Wednesday morning, January 3, 2024, police responded to an emergency call. Preliminary reports indicate that Angus Mitchell’s death appears to be a result of drowning. An official cause of death has not yet been declared.
Angus Mitchell was an influential personality in the beauty sector, carrying forward his father’s legacy. He co-owned John Paul Mitchell Systems, a company that his father established in 1980.
Following his father’s demise from pancreatic cancer in 1989, also at age 53, Angus inherited his father’s ownership in the company and its associated educational institutions. His hairstyling career was greatly shaped by his father, and he often stated that much of his knowledge was derived from him.
Prior to creating his mark in Beverly Hills, California, Angus spent several years honing his skills in Hawaii.
In 2010, he inaugurated the Angus Mitchell Salon in Beverly Hills, solidifying his prominence in the beauty sector. Angus’ impact was not limited to hairstyling. He was an acknowledged educator, a model, and a spokesperson for MITCH, a men’s line under the JPMS brand.
Angus was as devoted to his family as he was to his profession. He was married three times – first to Michelle Raab, then to Sian, with whom he has an eight-year-old son named Dylan, and lastly to his current wife, Mara.
On the eve of his unexpected death, Angus was seen enjoying Hawaiian music with friends at his residence, as captured in an Instagram video.
Angus Mitchell’s contributions to both the beauty industry and philanthropy earned him several distinctions, including being named #1 Platform Artist by Be magazine and receiving recognition from the Alternative Hair Show for his work raising money for leukemia research. His passing has deeply affected his family, friends, and the hairstyling community, who mourn the loss of a gifted and influential individual.
