Widespread Complaints About Jill Biden’s Xmas Video

First Lady Jill Biden faced a wave of criticism following the release of the White House’s annual Christmas video.

The video, posted on social media on the evening of December 13, 2023, showcased the White House’s holiday decorations alongside a performance by Dorrance Dance to Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker Suite.” The theme, “Magic, Wonder, and Joy,” was chosen to instill a feeling of childhood wonder in the audience.

Mrs. Biden described the video as encapsulating “magic, wonder, and joy,” featuring dancers in elaborate costumes moving through various rooms of the Presidential residence, each room festively decorated with Christmas trees and ornaments predominantly in red and white. The White House had earlier, on November 27, communicated its intention for the video to encourage a playful and festive mood among visitors during the holiday season.

However, the video received mostly negative reactions on social media. Critics described the production as strange, over-the-top, and lacking in traditional Christmas spirit. Some users compared it unfavorably to former First Lady Melania Trump’s Christmas presentations, which they considered more tasteful and seasonal. The video was criticized for causing second-hand embarrassment among some viewers, with comments describing it as nightmarish and not befitting of “The Nutcracker Suite.” Concerns were also raised about its appropriateness for a younger audience and its deviation from traditional Christmas aesthetics.

Despite the criticism, a minority of viewers expressed support, praising Dorrance Dance for their creative efforts and refreshing take on holiday festivities at the White House. Comparatively, Melania Trump’s 2018 Christmas video, remembered for its unique red Christmas trees, also faced criticism but was generally viewed as more in line with traditional Christmas themes.
