A 46-year-old man from Ocean City, New Jersey, has been charged with the murder of his 74-year-old mother.
On December 8, 2023, Jeffrey Surgent made a distressing 911 call around 4 p.m., revealing his bipolar disorder and admitting to the murder of his mother, Alexandria Surgent.
Police responding to the scene found Jeffrey Surgent in a disturbing state. He was discovered nude in the hallway of his apartment complex on the 600 block of Sixth Street, lying on top of his mother’s decapitated body.
The affidavit describes a chaotic scene with Surgent covered in blood and visibly distraught. He was heard repeatedly apologizing for killing his mother and began singing “Jesus Loves Me.”
Surveillance footage from the apartment complex, managed by the Housing Authority, captured chilling moments. It showed Surgent peeking from his apartment and rolling his mother’s head into the hallway before dragging out her body and laying on top of it until police arrived.
Jeffrey Surgent was initially taken to a secure medical facility under police surveillance and was later moved to the Cape May County Correctional Facility. A detention hearing is set for December 20.
Alexandria Surgent’s body was identified, confirming her as the victim. She had lived on the 400 block of Central Avenue.
Authorities continue to investigate this heinous crime.
