Matthew Perry Remembered by His Stepdad

Keith Morrison, “Dateline” host, recently spoke about his stepson, actor Matthew Perry, famous from the TV series “Friends,” following the actor’s sudden death.

At 54, Perry was found unresponsive in his home’s jacuzzi in Pacific Palisades, California, and was declared dead on October 28, 2023, after an apparent drowning.

Morrison, 76, married to Perry’s mother since 1981, remained silent on the incident until a November 27, 2023 X post (Twitter), coinciding with Giving Tuesday. There, Morrison highlighted the newly formed Matthew Perry Foundation, dedicated to supporting those struggling with addiction—a cause close to the late actor’s heart.

In his lifetime, Perry was candid about his addiction battles, spending over $9 million on sobriety, including multiple rehab attempts, a journey shared in his 2022 memoir. Perry was actively involved in treatment during one of “Friends'” most iconic episodes.

Perry’s foundation, quoting him from a 2022 “Q With Tom Power” interview, reflects his hope to be remembered for helping others.

“Friends” co-star Jennifer Aniston, in addition to other family members, continues to promote the foundation’s mission in combating addiction.
