Former NFL Titans Star Passes Away at 52

Tennessee Titans tight end Frank Wycheck, known for the iconic “Music City Miracle,” passed away at 52. On December 9, 2023, Wycheck suffered a fatal fall at his Chattanooga, Tennessee residence and was later found unresponsive.

Wycheck’s NFL career spanned 11 years, starting in 1993. Drafted by Washington from the University of Maryland, he later joined the Houston Oilers, which transformed into the Tennessee Titans. His time with the Titans solidified his football legacy.

His career highlights include three Pro Bowl selections (1998-2000), ranking fourth among tight ends with 505 career receptions at retirement. His overall performance included 5,126 receiving yards and 28 touchdowns across 155 games. Wycheck was honored in the Titans’ Ring of Honor and the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.

The 1999 “Music City Miracle” in the AFC Wild Card Game against the Buffalo Bills, where his lateral to Kevin Dyson led to a game-winning touchdown, remains a legendary NFL moment.

Post-retirement, Wycheck contributed to sports broadcasting but stepped down in 2017 due to health concerns from football-related head injuries. His family is committed to supporting research into brain injuries in sports.

Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk expressed deep condolences, acknowledging Wycheck’s vital role in the team and his beloved status. He leaves behind two daughters, Deanna and Madison, and three grandchildren, leaving a lasting impact on NFL history.
